Strange Traveling Abdominal pains

by Julie__0, Jul 27, 1998 12:00AM

I am currently in my 8th week of pregnancy and have been experiencing strange, low-grade lower abdominal pains.  These pains "travel," as I have also felt them down my leg, in my side, and in my back.  The pains are not severe, but are more intense and persistent than normal cramping and ligament stretching pains.  My doctor says not to worry unless they become more severe.  She suggested that the corpus luteum is possibly the cause of the pain, specifically the lower abdominal pain.
I'm concerned this pain could be hiding an ectopic pregnancy or ovary problems.  Should an ectopic pregnancy have ruptured by now?  Should I be worried?  Any advice is welcome.  Thank you!
Dear Julie:
All women experience discomforts in early pregnancy. Most are exactly as your describe: mild, variable in location, duration, description, and pattern. They have no meaning.
Ectopic pregnancy is uncommon and does not present in the way that you describe.
I believe you have been given correct advice.
