Yeast Infection During Pregnancy

by lrk__0, Oct 20, 1998 12:00AM
I have a chronic yeast infection.  When not pregnant, I use a vinegar and water douche when necessary, but keep the infection under control with Caprylic acid.  Any idea if Caprylic is safe to use during pregnancy or have any other suggestions?  Obviously I cannot douche, and Monistat type products do not work.  I have already tried that route 3 times and am only 13 weeks!  Any help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

Women with chronic yeast infections need to have a thorough examination  by their health care provider.  Sometimes yeast infections can be symptomatic of other processes going on in the body, i.e. diabetes.  Douching repeatedly or using intravaginal medications can destroy the normal healthy secretions present in your vagina.  During pregnancy this is particularly important to prevent bacteria from ascending into the cervix and uterus.  Contact your health care provider and have an examination done when the discharge is present so a confirmation diagnosis can be made.
