Yeast Infection...pregnancy

by Sue__0, Aug 13, 1998 12:00AM

First of all thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question. I have had problems before with yeast infections, seems every time i get uptight about somehting I get an infection.  My husband and I are trying to get pregnate and I'm ovulating...but wouldn't you know it I think a have a yeast infection (got all signs showing).  My question is "Can you get pregnate when you have a yeast infection?".  Does this make it difficult for the sperm to get where it's going...does it kill the sperm?  Also, having a yeast infection, does that make it difficult for the egg? Any help would be appreciated.
Dear Sue:
Yeast infection does not prevent pregnancy. However, the vaginal soreness makes intercourse unpleasant. The thick discharge and yeast-specific creams used as therapy mechanically trap the sperms. Vaginal infections do not interefere with ovulation.
