beta hcg levels

by cheryl-g, Aug 11, 1998 12:00AM

My HCG levle on 8/14 was 1101.  I am trying to determine if I had sex on 8/1
what are the chances this person can be the father of my baby?  I don't think
he is the father.  I am aware the levels of HCG double every 2-3 days and
if I do the math the days do not match.  Am I correct?
Dear Kristina:
An hCG level cannot be used to count backwards and thereby determine the date of conception. The level is not detectable in blood until 10-14 days after ovulation, depending on the specific assay. The doubling level has a range of 2-3 days. The level itself is influenced by the number of eggs that have fertilized, even if one ultimately ends up with only one baby.
