cycle length and progesterone quesitons

by Jodi__0, Jul 13, 1998 12:00AM

Hi--I've been charting BBT and I'm confused.  My cycle seems long--I
don't ovulate until day 22 or so.  Also, my temps stay at their post
ovulation high range even after I begin menstruating.
  1) Is the long follicular phase likely to interfere with my fertility?
  2) What might cause my temps to stay high and could this interfere with
  fertility?
Thanks so much for providing this service
Dear Jodi:
A long follicular phase is common. The only impact on fertility is that it limits the number of opportunities per year to conceive because there are a reduced number of ovulations. Second, if you do not know when you are ovulating, it is difficult to time intercourse to maximize pregnancy.
In women who have long follicular phase and know when they are ovulating, fertility is the same as the rest of the population.
The BBT remains elevated into menstrual flow in some women. Temperature is modified by hormones and many other factors. In itself, this is not a problem and does not alter fertility.
