levoxyl and breastfeeding

by Alyson__0, Aug 26, 1998 12:00AM

I am taking .137mg of Levoxyl daily post partial thyroid removal 2 yrs. ago.
Will I be able to breast feed my baby due 12/27/98 while taking this
medication? If not , what are my other options?
Dear Allyson:
Thyroid medication is not contraindicated during breast feeding. Minimal amounts of the hormone are present in the breast milk and thyroid has not been associated with any harmful effects. Your child's pediatrician should be aware of your thyroid condition and medication.
