low progesterone levels during pregnancy

I just got my blood results from my dr. confirming my pregnancy, although the nurse stated my progesterone level was slightly low at (13) and the normal was around 32. I was given a prescription for progesterone suppositeries,inwhich I will began tonight. I'm very scared, I've never had a miscarriage before and thats all I've been seeing on the internet. I have one child which was pretty normal besides the C-Section it took to bring her into the world. Does this automatically mean I will have an abortion, will the suppositeries help, what can I do?

Dear Malisa:
Progesterone level in the luteal phase should be >10 ng/ml and in early pregnacy >15 ng/ml. An isolated progesterone level in the absence of any clinical signs/symptoms has no predictive value: repeated low values are not reassuring, but by itself, this information still does not predict the outcome for the pregnancy.
Progesterone suppositories are safe, contain "natural hormone" an will increase the serum progesterone level. Their value as therapy is unproven.
The pattern of the quantitated hCG levels in serum is a best predictor of early trophoblast (placental cell origin) function.
