luteal phase post-pill

luteal phase post-pill

I just went off the pill 2 months ago (after almost 10 years), and my luteal phase last month was only 9 days long. I heard that sometimes it takes several months for your progesterone levels to come back up to normal after you stop taking the pill, and that it is not abnormal for people like myself to have shortened luteal phases for several months.  Is this the case, or should I contact my doctor?  Would love to hear what others have experienced.
Dear Karen:
I do not attach any significance to a 9-day length to the luteal phase in the first cycle off oral contraceptives. After any suppression of the menstrual cycle (birth control pills, pregnancy, amenorrhea of any cause), there can be an interval of time before consistent ovulation and luteal phase normality are established.
If your third cycle off the pill is also abonormal, contact your physician. (s)he may still delay any treatment until you have gone 6 months since 90% of women will have established an effective cycle at this time point.
