m/c,double ovulation

I had a d&c 2 wks ago at 11 wks for a missed abortion. I'm 37, never been pregnant and we wanted this baby. The dvlpmnt was 11 days slower than it should have been. We saw a heartbeat but dvlpmnt didn't cont past 8 wks.
Several things bother me... the last 2 cycles before I was noting with the ovulation predictor sticks that I was ovulating 2X each month. (+ readings 1-3 days, then - readings several days, then + readings 3 days.) This was happening at about days 8 and 15. My doctor said that was impossible and the brand of ovulator predictor was bad. But they worked fine the 4 mths before that with regular cycles. Is it possible to double ovulate and would there be any pregnancy problems with that?
He says to wait 2 cycles to try again because of a slightly increased risk of placenta previa? I don't have any special history for that problem, and everything else I've read says I can try again when I'm ready. Is he being overly cautious? I'm changing doctors (I felt devastated every office visit) but I'd like some information. Thank you.

Dear Mary:
Ovulation occurs onetime each cycle. Double ovulation which is a cause of twins occurs within a day. There have been medical anecdotes of twins that are 1 month different in developmental age. The more likely explanation for a positive color change on day 8 and then on day 15 is the pattern of LH secretion which gives a flase reading in the early days of the cycle and the true reading near the middle of the cycle. Patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and an altered LH/FSH ratio demonstrate this pattern. It has no impact on pregnancy: it is confusing to the patient.
Following a D&C, there is bleeding. It generally takes 6-8 weeks for menses to return. Many physicians advise patients to wait through the first cycle to assure that the endometrium has had opportunity to grow and shed normally one time before attempting to support a pregnancy. Many patients need some time to put the emotional experience of a miscarriage behind them.

D&C scrapes the lower uterine area where the endometrial cover is thinnest. This may by the reason you physician mentioned placenta previa.
