Dear Judie:
Multiple gestation has higher hCG levels because each pregnancy unit forms a placenta which is the source of the hormone. There is not a level that diagnoses multiple pregnancy. the pattern of rise, a doubling every 2-3 days, is the same as a singleton pregnancy.
Twin gestation is diagnosed from ultrasound images.
Keywords: high hCG, multiple pregnancy
