At the hospital my babies had a hearing test done. All babies do. Zachary passed with flying colors but joshua had some problems with some of the tones. He didnt hear or respond to half of them. Today i took them in for a follow up on their circumcision and they ran another hearing test on the boys.. they are saying joshua has hearing loss in both ears. While he can still hear some sounds i will need to learn sign language. Im so heartbroken my baby cant hear to well. How much of mommys voice can my baby hear? Dr can give me an answer. There will be more testing when he gets older. In the mean time , i need to find a way to learn sign language.. do you ladies know of any places or books that can help me?

Sorry emma about your baby but at least he is happy and healthy :) having thoses tests done at the hospital is freaky bc u cant prepare yourself for them like when u were preggers..I plan on teaching my child sign language anyways bc its just easier like simple words hungry full more water my next door neighbor was an infant teacher and she has to learn how to sign and she has flash cards for me so once I get ahold of them ill let u know but we can teach our babies how to sign together now how fun !!!

How are you doing? Did his doctor give you a referral to see an ENT?

My brother was born deaf. We didn't find out til age 2...no tests like now...he had tubes put in his ears and he has been able to hear just fine since. Could something like that be an option??

I'm sorry to hear that about your little boy, it must be hard Bailey failed his first hearing test in one ear, but a follow up 6 weeks later said he was fine. Sometimes if its done too soon after birth it can have a blockage from fluid. But on the other hand, sign language is not that hard to learn, i know a few basic signs because of my job, i work in disability, and we use 'makaton' not sure if you know what that is because i'm in Australia. There must be somewhere where you are that can help you, your doctor or hospital will probably recommend a place for you to help.

It'll be okay. You and him will learn it together. Babies learn language just by being exposed to it. From birth their brains are a clean slate and they will pick up whatever language is used around then. A few years back all the staff at the underwent some ASL training to use in the classroom and it is amazing how young some of these babies are that will start signing back to you. I'm not talking full sentences or anything but 8 month olds signing "milk" and "more".

Thank you. Its going to be so hard to learn sign language and teach it all in the same.. im already starting to feel overwhelmed with it....

I don't know what to recommend but I'll ask a friend of mine that is a sign language interpreter. In the meantime if you start looking make sure it is actual American Sign Language. Some of those "baby sign" deals aren't actual ASL but some made up form of sign language.
