An Apology !

Dear World:

We, the United States of America, your top quality supplier
of the ideals of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for our
2001-2008 interruption in service. The technical fault that led to this
eight-year service outage has been located, and the software responsible
was replaced November 4. Early tests of the newly installed program
indicate that we are now operating correctly, and we expect it to be
fully functional on January 20. We apologize for any inconvenience
caused by the outage. We look forward to resuming full service and hope
to improve in years to come. We thank you for your patience and
understanding,

Sincerely,

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

I am not old enough to remember that time either. But my grandparents are. And they well remember the great depression, poverty and actual starvation which F.D.R. brought us out of and also lead us through World War II. I want a change back to the ideas he incorporated in that time. When people knew their savings or Social Security would not be used for the stock market by the government. When there were more programs to insure that Americans had a job. And the America of the time which is that people felt united, not out of fear of authority but out of a love for our country and a need to support each other and unite around a common cause which in that case was pulling the United States out of the worst financial crash in history and a war to liberate countries all around the world where at one point we were on the losing side.
I know Obama would like to inherit the legacy F.D.R. left behind but I don't know if he's up to it but I will give him the respect he deserves as the next president of the United States as we all should. As for the legacy of Bush, why look back at the past when you can look ahead. The United States must take back its sense of diviseness of all sides or nothing will be accomplished.

I respect God, but I do not fear Him. If I were to fear Him, then I would distance myself from Him.

thanks for reading.
The meaning is respect, not fear as in afraid. And we should have a healthy fear, it keeps us in healthy boundaries. It is as when we were children, we loved our parents but feared what they would do if we disobeyed.

Now, I am talking about normal parents that disiplined out of love, so spare me any comments on that please.

"I want a change, but I want a change for people to change back to God fearing, God loving nation."

peggy,

This comment of yours caught my attention right away. I simply do not believe it is possible to unconditionally love someone you fear.

Totally agree teko regarding the media msnbc has a lot to answer for ,they were really predudiced during the nominations and till continue to vilify Sarah Palin and though I am a democrat I hate to see  her and the others torn apart I always thought before this election that the media kind of steered a middle course. As for Hillary she didnt stand a chance they were all for O Bama and she only ever got bad reviews ,they were determined to help him win the nomination.I will stand by my democrat views and my new President but am not certain I liked the way it was done.

This is posted on another forum and felt like sharing my response to this post. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I must say, I thought Bush did a good job.I will not apologize for that. People were singing his praises after 9-11. How soon these things are forgotten. Sure, this comment is not going to go over good here, based on the previous comments. But we have not been attacked again, and there were no reports of any untoward behavior, and many more good things he has done. He brought dignity back to the office of the presidency. It is STILL America, and I can STILL disagree.  But mark my words, SOCIALISM is in the air, and this privilege(freedom) is about to be something of the past.

Lets see how free I am, to have my own opinions without someone making snide comments because I don't agree with this statement.  Let's wait about 3 years, and see how popular Obama is then. This is true for just about every previous president we have had. People thought he was the new saviour of the world, but the truth is, the president is just a front man for the real powers that be.

And how gullible can we be? Time for a change? How novel! Never heard anyone say that before.

We need to get some research and see just how many presidential hopefuls used that phrase. But some people acted like it was the first time it had ever been uttered. And to my way of thinking it is just not specific enough. What do people want, morals to continue on the downhill slope,  more "free" programs, whatever I want regardless of what it means to or for someone else?

I want a change, but I want a change for people to change back to God fearing, God loving nation. Back to our strong moral values of where we worked an honest days work and received an honest days work, where the Ten Commandments were fought for, not fought to have thrown out. Not some hyper extended pay check just for showing up and putting in an appearence, going to a few meetings, have an impressive title, but real work.  Most people feel it is beneath their dignity work a blue color job. Years ago, those jobs were blessings and people were thrilled to have them.

A lot of you readers here, might be to young to remember that time. It has disappeared and I barely remember it myself.  I do miss honesty, good character, trust, consideration, and respect. I miss the Lord's Day being honored as just that. I miss a simple time when people were good, and a mans word meant something. I miss the old America, Land of the free. What we have now is land of the social programs and land of loss of true freedom.

We still have people with those good character traits, but today they are far and few between not the norm they were in years past. Our focus is off of God and people, and on material possesions and titles. Yes, I want a change as well.

On behalf of the Canadian government, I accept your apology  = )

Our Prime Minster is too busy with his hairdresser (no kidding) and making sure he represents Canada all over the world - especially in warm places during the winter so he asked me if I would respond for him.  If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale  lol

I do agree that history will judge Bush but it's usually the winners who "define" history.

MJ - I saw a guy who looked just like Bin Ladin in Wal-Mart with his two kids.  He was buying them Muppet toys.  Bin Ladin has a number of rich relatives.  I could be wrong but I seem to remember that his brother was in Texas during 9/11 but was flown out before it actually happened.  I think the brother has even met the Queen.

Hi ! I agree with some of what you said, but I disagree that history will judge Bush kindly.

If Obama has an unsuccessful presidency, everyone will know that 99.9% of it would be Bush's fault. Obama risked a great deal by agreeing to run for president and now things have even gotten worse.

If Obama has a successful presidency, he will be seen as the president who cleaned up Bush's mess.

Either way.... Bush loses.

Bin Ladin is still alive and making videos and he was one responsible for 9-11...that bothers me... Bush should have continued with that search and finished that problem, but he dropped it like a hot potato...

I am not a republican, nor a Bush supporter. However I too think history will judge him better than the popularity poles currently indicate. It will also reveal that the election that gave him the presidency over Gore was crooked and flawed.

Yes those that attacked us on 9/11 were from our trusted friends that we fought and died for, Saudi Arabia. What intelligence? It stunk at the time of 9/11.  What little he had was unreliable, unconfirmed and shaky at best. Still he was criticized for not taking action. Yet the intelligence he was provided regarding Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was "confirmed" even by other countries. He acted on what he thought was reliable information and he is still criticized. He cannot win. Who really knows what would have happened had we not gone into Iraq? Saddam was an evil dictator with grandiose idealizations. The world is a safer place without him.

I back every president that serves our country and I will back Obama. I hope he will be the saviour that many Americans beleive him to be. I pray that Obama will have the experience, wisdom and courage to fulfill his promises and keep the USA out of harms way. Unfortunately my gut tells me otherwise. His words are pretty but I am afraid that he will wavier when we need strength, tough decisions and leadership the most. Clinton would have been a better choice but too many males are afraid of women and still see them as the weaker sex. What a shame.

America is still the greatest nation in the world. We have work to do but we are not evil.
Don't sign my name either to the "Dear World" letter. We have done much more good than it indicates and should be applauded for our support and contributions to this world and mankind.

I think the media has made it impossible to actually know how successful iraq was or was not. truth will trickle out after the man is out of office. I agree with RR on that .note.  I also feel like Bush took us to  Iraq to keep fighting off our own soil. Think what you will, but  ther have been nor more attacks since 9/11. I voted for Bush and respect him for the position/job he holds. I also voted Obama and will give him the same respect.  I think that americans have no longer, the respect and I thank the Media, cnn included for that. This lack of respect I think is what makes people mad about this post. Just my opinion....

It's a joke.... thought I would try to liven this place up !  ; ^ ) There are people who think it is funny. Of course it does leave the door open for good, healthy discussions on politics. Very rarely, but not often, I enjoy discussing politics. Today just happens to be one of those days.

Bush looks contented because he's either in a state of denial, doesn't realize what a terrible mess he is leaving behind or he realizes it but he just doesn't care. Regardless, history will not judge him kindly. He condoned and perhaps ordered torture, he violated the constitution, he got us into Iraq with absolutely no justification and there is plenty more like maybe the economic morass we're in now.
And let us not forget that 9/11 happened on his watch and he did have credible intelligence that just such a terror attack could happen and he totally ignored that intelligence. He seemed to ignore the accurate intelligence and embrace and exaggerate the inaccurate intelligence.
His swagger? Ridiculously inappropriate.

Being an Independent, I think I tend to see things from both sides of the aisle. My parent's taught me a long time ago that you need to be informed citizen in order to vote. Well I definitely keep informed and I do my part as an American Citizen who is very concerned about this country.

As far as your comments, I strongly disagree. And I will specifically point out things that Bush has failed us on (when it comes to national security, since this seems to be the only positive thing that some people believe he's done):

1) Bush wanted the Saudia Arabians to protect our ports. Of course many people were surprised to hear this... you know most of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia !

2) We still have a very serious problem with our unsecure borders and the director of Homeland Security was recently busted for hiring illegal immigrants.

3) Air marshals are great... we need them. However, according to CNN... fewer than 1 percent are protected by on-board, armed federal air marshals.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/TRAVEL/03/25/siu.air.marshals/index.html

4) The Director of Intel was on 60 Minutes... very upset that he personally is aware of thousands of terrorist plots against the U.S. and how homeland security refuses to work with him.

Yes, we have Al Qaeda on the run in Afghanistan/Pakistani border. But they are still operating and although they can't do much now (but they still have), they are still plotting. Unfortunately for some unknown reason... based off of lies, our resources are tied up in Iraq. Remember when Obama was criticized for speaking out against terrorism in Pakistan ? Well the Bush administration ended up taking Obama's advice and wiping out a few terrorist targets there. The good news is..... Obama will hunt down Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. (the real terrorists).  We will be back on the path that we would have taken, had Al Gore been elected (hmmm... I think he was) president in 2000. And the world wouldn't blame us for going after Laden... unlike Iraq.

I honestly don't think a president who was a liberal would have reacted any differently during 9-11. They might not have declared war on Iraq and that war has gone nowhere, American soliders have died needlessly and Al Qaeda which wasn't there before has started to mobilize groups of renegades there. Yes I was glad to see Saddam Hussein go as much anyone else but we can't intervene with every dictator as much as we'd like and I'd say that war was motivated to protect the oil industry more than America lives.
As for the war Afghanistan I did support it and Obama's intentions are to finish it. I'm not sure if I support extending our troops into Pakistan but I know we can't just back out of there completely. Obama's ending the war in Iraq and targeting Afghanistan where the war was started makes sense in terms of priorities to me. I'm sure he or any other president would have reacted the same way in 9-11.

Sorry I hope we do okay when OBama takes over, we needed the change anyway, I did vote for him but only because America didnt want a Woman President, I do think he should stand up and be counted more than he has over the Israel /Hamas Problem, maybe he will after the 20th ,

History will judge Bush completely differently than people do now,  in my opinion.

I firmly believe if we had a liberal president in the White House during 911,  we might not exist as a country today.

I always support our presidents, and I support Obama.  I do have fears,  though,  that if he actually acts on the promises/attitudes he campaigned with and won election with,  we're going to be in for a world of hurt.  Thankfully,  he appears to be backing off of a lot of his promises.

Look at Bush.  Just look at how he looks.  He appears contented and happy.  He knows what he's done more than any of us - he knows the efforts he's thwarted that the American public doesn't have any knowledge of.  He's swaggering again - something frankly I think an American president should do.   Compare that to how Carter looked when he left office - a truly beaten,  broken man.  God Bless Carter,  and I mean that,  he is a kind and decent man.  But he left office in the shame of some piddly-*** dimestore dictator was parading our citizens through town square as shamed hostages,  and they knew they could get away with it.

Try THAT on Bush's watch.

I know Obama will be faced with numerous challenges ahead. Partly, due to the last 8 years of failed policies (my opinion). It isn't going to be easy, but I support him 100% and I'm proud to say that I did not vote for Bush in the past.
