Do you get St. Genevieve? It's a Texas wine. They make a really good red that's simply called "Chardonnay" or however you spell it. They also make "Red" and "White", and it's really surprisingly inexpensive.
A box of wine is always nice. Economical, keeps forever. I refuse to give in on this issue.
Andi- I am with your husband, it has to be sweet and not tart at all. Although now I have no gallbladder so it hinders my occasional drinking. Actually it extinguished it out completely..lol BUT.. when I did like an occasional glass I liked Kiona. Now it isn't red, it's a late harvest white riesling. 2005 Yakima Valley. DH gets it at Whole Foods. We could not find it anywhere else! It doesn't leave a bad aftertaste and it is really good!!
I don't drink wine..but my dh is a beer drinker and he enjoys red wine as well...
His preferences are BORDEAU and MERLOT....
Not a particular maker though...or at least...not that I know of???
I'll go on record here, ahem, by saying that I'm not really a fan of wine in general and have had the opportunity to drink the really expensive, supposed-to-be-good stuff.....and I hated it......If I have to drink wine...there's a statement, HAVE to drink it, lol....I'll take Arbor Mist anyday. I'd much prefer a bourbon sour or a beer.
Way back in the day, a group of us street kids would gather to play "Vampire" (sort of like D&D for goth kids) and someone would buy one of those giant bottles of burgundy and we would mix it with sprite.
*shudders*
Charles Shaw isn't too bad. It used to be called two buck Chuck cause it was only two dollars. I think it is a little more now but only $5 or so.
This is too funny! This is my choice wine when I'm entertaining cause I can drink it all day long and it isn't too strong, tastes good, look sparkling pretty in my glass, is cheap hee hee, and takes the edge off the nerves of preparing and entertaining. Good analogy LOL on the adult version of boone's farm .. geez, that brings back memories when drinking age was 18 in the US. (oops, dating myself here).
C~
Ooh, we are in the Pacific NW so blackberry is a good option...very cool.
John is not a sweet freak by any means, I just threw in the sweet thing for me in the off chance I would want to have a glass.
GRose-That is what I thought, I passed it and stopped, marveling at the convenient screw cap and teen appeal bottle ;-) I so remember Boone's, there was this tasty tropical one some 16 years ago. Man it gave me heartburn!
Ruby-Now is Sangria a mix of something?
I really should just google all of this and stop wasting everyone's time. Maybe I will put a call into my auntie in San Francisco, rumor has it she has good taste in wine.
A good cheap wine I found is Manischewitz (sp?). It's a Kosher wine, I usually get blackberry and it is $4-5 a bottle. I like it because it's sweet and has a nice after taste.
That's what I drank when I was 17 since it is so cheap. I am not really a fan of boones farm so arbor mist our alternative.
I'm not wine lover, but I DO love Olive Garden's berry sangria. It's fruity and has just a little "tart" to it. SIL and I once drank an entire pitcher of it in one sitting. Back when we liked each other, that is!
My husband does not have a refined palate at all, so no point in spending any significant amount of money on wine for him. We have tons of wineries around here in WA, I suppose we should just start with the local stuff and go from there.
Reds go with steak? Is that what I have heard? What is the difference between Merlot and all the other stuff?
Swampy-It's a deal.
Andi, have you tried a wine made from muscodine grapes? That is the type of wine I prefer.. but it's usually pretty pricy.
Okay, but only if Peek is completely over her cold.
My mom drinks Arbor Mist, but I find it too sweet for my taste. When I drink red wine, I like it very dry and oaky. I'm guessing your husband will not enjoy that. If you prefer a sweeter red wine, maybe try making sangria with cheaper red wine. I have a recipe for it if you'd like.
Some day, Swampy.
That settles it, I will just fly down to see Peek and we will go wine tasting...Swampy I will pick you up along the way.
Swampy recommends a little evening away from the kids, find a wine bar, go there with your husband and talk to them and try a few things.
A wonderful wine to enjoy with grilled red meats, Mill Creek’s Dry Creek Valley Merlot has smooth blackberry and tart cherry flavors combined with spice and a hint of vanilla.

Type: Red
Variety: Merlot
Region: Sonoma, California
Price: $18.00
It was funny, that is what he said!
Ewww is all I can say.
I did have this yummy beer back in Spokane on my trip back a few months back, it was a Blueberry Cream ale from a local brewery (read: cannot get it anywhere else...sugar!) it was very good.
Just get him some Mad Dog 20/20 that will do the trick LMAO
Can't help you. I don't like wine at all.
i like red wine, but i dont care much for the "punch" flavored wines. wine is such a personal choice as far as taste goes. i like a merlot or something more hearty. my bff likes the wines such as you said. a great place to find wines that are given a good description is cost plus or maybe trader joes. i miss my wine lol. dh wont touch the stuff, he is a boring bud person lol. i guess im no help at all am i lol.
as far as beer goes a friend introduced dh to blue moon with a big wedge of an orange in it. that is a yummy beer!
when addy is done bfing (ya right not anytime soon) i look forward to a time out with the girls and a margarita. not a wimpy one blended but on the rocks with a good shot of grand marnier! really im not a lush lol just deprived!
