We ALWAYS have a reason for deleting posts - we don't just do it randomly or because we feel like it. I promise we have more to do in our day than just search for things to delete. :)
The process can be that we receive a complaint, or numerous complaints (which is more likely to be the case), and we then read the post, read the thread to see the context, tone, etc. If we deem it to be abuse, and therefore a violation of the Terms of Use (
http://www.medhelp.org/termsofuse.htm) that you did agree to adhere to when you joined, then we will likely delete the post.
Sometimes we notice it when checking out another post, or we get a system alert because of a link given in the post.
It's a common belief that there is "free speech" on the internet. Most of the time, this isn't true. Most message boards have Terms of Use (or Code of Conduct, Terms of Service, etc). Your ISP has them, too. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc., all have them. You always have freedom of thought. No one can take that from you.
There are ways to get your point across without being rude, insulting, abusive, etc. We work very hard to make sure that MedHelp is a safe and supportive environment for everyone - members and non-members who may be just reading things to get more info. I always try and think what a non-member or a new member would think reading it. For example, if a woman facing an unwanted pregnancy came to our pregnancy forum, and saw a bunch of posts saying abortion is murder, women who have abortions are selfish, etc., do you think she would post? I doubt it.
Politics are off-limits except in journals and user groups.
Hope this helps. If you have concerns with a specific post(s) of yours, feel free to PM me.
