Dreams

I've been MIA the last few weeks I think because of depression and also something wrong that I am sleeping most of the day. I've also gotten several dreams some interesting and some just weird.

One of them was there being an unusual warm-up for Febuary and things starting to sprout in mid winter. I got to see beautiful flowers.
Another dream I was following a dog running around in someone's front yard.  Then there were also birds in my dreams.

Anyone else here find dreams facinating?

I've never heard someone else  mention the vibrating sensation but, I get that too.  Zombies and moaning...that is a bit creepy!!  I get like black, oily crude slowly drowning me, and like a fog that comes over me and steals my breath.  One time I was stuck with a semi-truck hitting me over and over again, that one felt like hours...

Angelinthemorning, wonko, I was about to say, that I also have those sleep paraylisis dreams too.  The most recent one someone was telling me I have the ability to hear dead people. Creepy enough...THEN I start to wake up and hear a very REALISTIC moan......  Terrified I try my best to wake up, but I can't seem to pull myself awake, so I'm stuck hearing this moooooooooan for what seems like half an hour (though in reality I'm sure it was only about 30 seconds or less)...

It's one thing to be told I can hear dead people but to hear a *realistic* moan is a bit much, don't you think?

One trick to getting around sleep paralysis I find is to wake up completely once I get the chance and stay awake for at least about five minutes before attempting to sleep again.  Usually I don't seem to be terrified when SP happens, but this one was just strange.....reminds me of the time I had an SP episode and saw a zombie arm...  Oddly that didn't scare me as much as this.  I knew it was SP, but the worst part I have is the vibrating feeling and that happens several times in succession. I don't get very good sleep with it.

Has anyone else ever had dreams of flying through space at supersonic speeds? That's the only time when I'm not afraid of heights, it's weird but fun when it happens.

I read somewhere the only way you remember your dreams is if you wake up while you are dreaming it.  Then the first thing you do is try to replay what you see in your dream and repeat any thing that was said.

I gtg, but hope to return later.

Some people can't recall their dreams.  Start keeping a notepad by your bed.  When you wake up at night or first thing in the morning start writing.  Most the time people lose the memory of their dream almost instantly upon waking.  If you start writing it should help you recall them.  Also, unless you're getting a good REM sleep you might not be dreaming all that much.  I know about the first 6 months after my girls were born I swear I never had a single dream...

You know I can kinda see people relating it to alien abduction!!  It is absolutely terrifying.  I always wonder though if I'm actually breathing during them or not??  I my mind I'm not and my throat is closing off but, surely not.  It's amazing that our mind can convince us we're suffocating when we're breathing just fine...

I also experience what you describe as "having the awake but paralyze dreams.."  I think this is more commonly referred to as "sleep paralysis."  I was terrified when it first happened, and like you, trained myself to have more control over the situation.

I always thought it was "just me," until one day I was watching a show about alien abuctions (of all things!) and it mentioned how some people who think they are abucted really suffer from sleep paralysis.

I get those kind of chase dreams too. Usually it takes the form of a man or man with a gun or some kind of unknown evil.  One theme that occurs the a combination of chaseing and flying dreams. I take to the air to eascape whatever is coming after me. Usually the evil force cannot fly, so I feel a bit of saftey, but it seems like I feel unable to fly forever to escape it. Plus whatever "it" is that chases me seems to always know where I am no matter where I try to hide.  Sometimes I will get a distance from "it" and feel safe, only later to be reminded "it" found me and I need to fly again.

Often in my flying dreams I seem to be the only one who can fly, or one of very few in my dream.  One of my recent dreams I was afraid to take off for fear others would see me as a freak.

Buildings and mall-like places show up often as well as forests, parks, and parking ramps (I think because they look creepy irl that they show up in my dreams.)

I also dream in color, sometimes vivid. Two days ago I dreamt I could TASTE something.  That was an odd first....  It was a mint flavored candy of some sort.

Dreams must be important. Whenever I go through a few months of less than 4 hours of sleep, I do not dream properly and find it throws everything out of balance, physically, mentally, emotionally.

I had a few dreams as well that predicted more or less of what was to come soon after. And I must have spent my whole childhood dreaming of freeing people from some tyrant. Nowadays though, I dream life as it is and sometimes I fool myself: the alarm rings at 2:30am or so and I dream I am feverishly working on my projects, in finest detail, and when I wake up, well, the screen is still blank. All the great solutions gone in the blink of an eye...:)

Most of my dreams have to do with something in my life. Either something that I am facing deep down inside or something I will face. If I dream about a snake I know I will face something bad. If the snake bites me then something I love dies or someone I know dies. If I concour the snake then I will over come the bad situation. Kind of weird and most people don't believe me but my mom says she is that way and so is my great grandma.

I do dream future events often.

I could almost write a book or movie based on some of my dreams. The are so weird and vivid. Some dreams I think about all day long.

Dreams are facinating. I usually don't remember most of mine. The ones I do remember, over the years are of me flying, which is great, except I can't seem to control how fast or how high I fly and my fear of hights causes a panic. I usually wake up because I've gone to high and it scares the **** out of me.lol

I had a reoccurring dream since I was 10 up until 2 years ago.  But, it wasn't pretty... Very odd though, getting shot at the top of a ferris wheel and falling.  I've only ran into one ferris wheel like the one in my dream, I made everyone leave the park, I was so scared.  I have read the Freud "interpretation of dreams" and a few others I picked up at the library but, can't remember the name.

I have a big fasination with dreams as well.  Also, I dream in color, and have actually learned how to control my dreams.  I was taught after I kept having the awake but paralyze dreams.  I think alot of our dreaming is things we are struggling with or confronting in our conscious everyday lives.

I've had a lot of dreams of me running from people, or in one case it was a lion. A lot of them look like war zones and we're dashing between houses hiding, etc., while soldiers are looking for us. I also had a dream several times about a lion that was loose and prowling around the city. It was just casually walking down the street, etc., and a group of us people would run from building to building while trying to keep an eye on the lion. For awhile there I thought the lion might represent the devil, since the Bible says he's like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour, but I don't know why I've had so many running dreams! Symbolic that I'm trying to run away from something in my life? I don't know. I don't actually have those dreams much anymore. A lot of times I just have strange dreams that don't make sense, lol.

Well some of my dreams would not be fit for description because they are too disturbing but they are dissociative and one interesting aspect is that often my life is playing on a movie screen. That is because I am homebound because of my physical disability and cannot physical sit in a movie theater any more and because most of my social interaction occurs online (or TTY, I can't physically speak on a phone). One thing that you might find interesting is the book "Awakenings" by Oliver Sacks. When the people who had Parkinsonianism had nightmares they were dissociative as I described but when they were given L-Dopa they had nightmares that were quite graphic but they were in the real world. When I take the anti-Parkinsonian medications at above a certain dosage they become like this. So my experience, although not nearly as bad, is somewhat like the people in the book. I enjoyed the movie as well but its not as accurate.
On the lighter side, a funny dream I had was when I was a kid. There was a shouting contest. I was trying to shout louder than the kid next to me and then after that the alarm rang so it was obviously reality intruding on the dream.

I have two recurring dreams.

In one, I am trying to leave my home but can't.  Every time I think I am ready to leave, I either forget something, or I go through the door and end up back in my bedroom.

In the other, I am confronted by a past school and told that I didn't complete the graduation requirements.  It is often my high school, but can be any stage of my education.  In any case, the institution always firmly argues that I must return or else face dire consequences.  Then, when I do return, I manage to miss all of the classes and need to go into the final unprepared.

I dream in color, and can usually read in my dreams, but not always.  My dreams are often lucid.  If an alarm or loud noise wakes me up, I probably won't recall my dreams.

That could be true. I also read that dreams of taking tests, going back to school is symbolic for life lessons and tests we go through.  If we are taking an exam, then perhaps we are about ready to finish some phase in our lives and go onto the next.

Sometimes I have dreams where I'm returning to the college I dropped out of and trying to set things right, get focused on my homework and do the projects.  Thing is in those dreams I feel uncertain what is expected of me. It's like how I get tests in my dreams.

I had a dream (this dream seems to crop up in different forms) I returned to a school that looked like where I went in Jr. High. They were having an English test of some sort.  I didn't know I was supposed to be in that class, let alone be enrolled that school, so I arrived late. That didn't seem to faze the teacher. It seemed like I arrived when she expected me.

I was given a test where I was supposed to fill in words in boxes. (Like one of those elementary like tests.)

I didn't know what I was supposed to write about or what words I needed to fill in.  They had me take the test home this time.  At some point I think I lost the test and couldn't find it, forgot about it.  Then I was scramming down the last minute to try to finish off my assignment/test.... I knew the class was about to start again in a few hours and I was at a house I lived in as a child...

I don't know if I ever finished the "assignment". My dream cut out before I had to go to school again.
