Yup they took their money away!! it was so wrong when its the only place here that serves women and children and not just that but this place serves 9 of our local counties! Thats alot!! They were asking for donations on the paper and tv it was cool one ladies who was actually staying there knew the man who man owns our mall and 2 of the best hotels here and she got him to donate 100K$$ !! It was a great start for them and i hope they are still in operations cus they say as winter comes our winds are bitter cold and the shelters get over crowded!!
1) St. Jude's Hospital
2) Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly Twin Cities
3) Little Sisters of the Poor of Pittsburgh - PA
Well, after I got off the floor from fainting, I would donate to almost all the same ones you folks have mentioned, in fact, I can not think of any other right now. I know, being an animal lover, one or two would sure be towards that, such as "Best Friends" in Utah, and as I said, the rest to the other worth-will ones.
Wow, gokuangel, I can't believe that the govt' took the grant that was going to the Angel House, that stinks big time, I would help them as well.
There are so many deserving places, it is so hard to decide.
You know, it always seems like the ones that want to help, like us, don't have the money, but the ones that DO have money, usually don't help, I am not saying that is a 100% all the time, but it sure seems like it most of the time.
ASPCA, the homeless, and World Vision.
Redhead..I think i would faint too!! i'm not used to having large amounts of cash either!! im usually like whats that green stuff again? oh yeah that stuff that hardly comes around lol!!
I've pretty much laid that thought/dream aside. I don't think I'd ever get rich but first of all if it did happen one blessed day I'd donate the money to hospices and education within palliative care, cancer organizations and doctors without borders. I think of those who win money and quit working but I'd definitely continue in my job. Sure, I do work to get my paycheck but the paycheck isn't everything. Can I contribute to making someone else's life better I will.
If I were rich I think I would faint! Not used to having money! Then I would have to have a big long hard think about where it would be most useful. Child Abuse, skin cancer, thyroid research, cancer, women's issues, men's health, mental illness, domestic violence, drug education, children's education, breast feeding awareness, fix up the schools here in Australia, the Aboriginal communites, the elderly...man the list goes on!
Ah...if only I were rich!
I think it's just fantasic, how everyone here wants to help others, angel you were so right when you said there are some great ideas here on helping others be it humans or animals,,maybe our goverament should read this post!!!!!!
I have donated to the disabled vets for many years and they supply all my labels in return, also as an animal lover the ASPCA..
1) The Institute for Molecular Medicine ---- helping people who have CFS, lyme, fibro, Gulf War Syndrome, neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases.
2) Either the Humane Society or ASPCA. I love animals and despise people who hurt them.
3) I would also donate money to help out these homeless people who are living in tent cities. I think we all need to help each other to get through this recession.
WOW! You guys have awesome ideas! Now I dont feel like such a wierdo for having big dreams and wishing i could help people!
Jollyman-lol you sound just like me thats what i always said 1 million to each one!
Wow. Great question. It's so difficult to decide because there are so many quality and wonderful charities out there.
But, here's my top 3:
1. Muscular Dystrophy Association (they help so many children)
2. Children's Miracle Network (they help childrens hospitals all across the nation)
3. Christian Children's (the one from the television ads. I used to be a sponsor of a child in Guatemaula and it's amazing what they do for children.)
Then, hubby and I always thought if we were wealthy we would build apartment complexes to help the homeless. However, they would have to work on the property as their rent so that they would feel like they weren't receiving something for free and we would set up a place where they could go to obtain better skills for finding a job and helping them get back on their own two feet.
We also have a dream to buy a lot of property and create a wildlife reserve on that property. We also want to create a place where abused, neglected animals (exotic and domestic) would be able to come and live their lives safe and well fed.
If i were very rich i would give to
1. 1 million dollars to the Maryland SIDS foundation
2. 1 million dollars to the Maryland Kidney Desease program
3. 1 million dollars to my church they are building a bigger church
I would donate to all of those charities but also a charity that we have here in our area called Vicki's Angels. Here is what this charity is about:
"Vickie’s Angel Walk was established by her husband, Mickey and her two sons Michael and Jason in May of 2003. Vickie fought a courageous battle with cancer for five months, but became an Angel on May 21, 2003.
Vickie’s Angel Walk has helped over 70 families in the last 4 years with contributions of over $200,000.
100% of all monies raised go to help families fighting Cancer." (on their website)
I just like the fact that I know that all money donated goes directly to the person or families affected.
Walter Reed Veterans Memorial Hospital.
childrens Leukemia Fund
Id create the third myself..Call it Project Read for Free,,Id start it in Detroit buy masive amts of adult books that are starting at 1st grade level and up so Adults could be taught to read and not be insulted by baby stlye books...so many are illeterate it makes me sad. The whole no child left beind is the fault.
I agree with all the charities you picked. It would be so wonderful to come into a great deal of money and to be able to help so many people and animals!
