Things are getting real bad

by jollyman069, Aug 18, 2009 12:50PM
I live in the state of Maryland, about 130 miles west of Baltimore. This is a very rual area,my town is called Frostburg, the population is about 6000. There is a universty here and when it is session the population doubles. The county I live in has about 70,000 people. So as you can see we live in a very small populated area.
This year alone we have had 3 murder-suicides, and several murders, plus many drug related crimes. This type of trend, has been increasing at an alarming rate the last several years. These kind of things we only read about or saw on the evening news, from places like Baltimore and Washington D.C.
Drug crimes have exploded in this area, and they re blaming it on perscription meds and herion, and crack cocaine. Overdoses are on the rise, they have opened 2 methadone clinics in the area in the last 3 years. I know these type of things aren't shocking to some, but when you are from a small area like this it is to it's residents.
What I am wondering are there any other MH,members that live in a small area like this seeing the same kind of things going on??  thanks...brian

Yeah, I'm seeing it. I don't live in a real big city and we're starting to see more big city crime. It makes me sad and angry at the same time when I see all the "tagging" going on on sides of buildings, signs, etc. That suggests more gang activity to me.
What makes them think it's ok to destroy property that doesn't belong to them? Some of this stuff is brick and you can't get graffiti off of brick.
We've also seen more home invasions. Now that is scary because the home owners are home when it happens. That's why I got dogs!

I come from a town of about 10,000......we have had 2 drug overdose deaths and 1 15 yr old who just hung himself in the last month or so, another man just shot himself and died a couple weeks ago.  Crimes are going up big time here.  Houses are being broken into, people are getting beat up, sexual abuse is rampant here right now.  Meth is on the rise again.....scary stuff                 sara
