What would You Do: Survival Game

What would You Do: Survival Game

Here is a scenario that I have just thought of:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You and your best friend are taking a hike though the woods when all of a sudden a Grizzly Bear comes out and attacks. Since you are both are hunters and knew of the danger lurking in the woods, you both have brought a Rifle along. You have only one shot left though and you both are terrified. The Grizzly Bear is approaching and getting ready to attack.

What would you do in this situation and why?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once I have received at least 10 posts, I will pick one of the best answers that would probably be the best way for Survival and I would contact them either on this post or Via PM. That person would then be able to post the next scenario. :) I hope you enjoy this game!!! Let's have fun with it. :) :) :)

well I hope i can keep my head about me and fall back on the things my father taught me growing up, about hunting and to stay calm in these situations, I would put a bullet in the bears head

Well, I actually had this happen in my front yard of my house that I grew up in.  We were kids so we did not carry rifles LOL.  But, in this situation I would push my friend in front of me and tell her to kill the bear because I am a coward and could not do it. I would cry for days knowing that I killed an animal.

By the way, I am not a animal activist or anything and believe in the right to bear arms but I love all animals.  Also, I have never hunted.  I guess if I was a hunter, I would have no qualms about shooting the bear.

It depends. Is this bear on the brink of charging, or just in its growling, "rawr, I'm a big, scary bear and I'm gonna eat you" stance?

It also depends which friend. I might just kick my friend over and run for the hills. :P

Heck, I might just growl back at the bear and run. I could shoot it - I do have good aim, but what happens when the bear DOESN'T die and is even more infuriated? I'll stick to running away.

Drop down and play dead. You might get mauled somewhat but it is your best plan of defence with a bear. Chances are you won't out-run him and your 1 shot may just **** him off. More people have survived by playing dead.

I want to add to my comment above.....I'm assuming that the bear is to close to outrun him. Also would like to add that although playing dead might be your best option, I don't know if I could actually do it successesfully. I'm sure I would be crying and screaming my butt off.  Might as well save that last shot for myself. lol

Im with brian, only Id shot the bear, LOL Brian,,seriously If I had one bullet Id nail the bear in the eye socket so it would quickly go to brain, then I know Id have to deal with the dnr cause they dont like people who shot bears even if being attacked has happened here in northern MI,,like who would not shot a bear if it was attacking...

I'm gonna add to my scenario even more....
as I'm playing dead, my friend is running, in which case the bear is chasing her, which is OK, because she's really not a good friend and has been having an affair with my husband, embezzled a million from my company and is out to ruin my life and the only reason we were out hunting together is because I was gonna pull a "Cheney" and "accidentally" shoot her. So the bear gets my friend, I get divorced and get my life back and fall in love with the ruggedly handsome Game Warden who rescued me. I capture the Grizzly and tame him and make lots of money using him in commercials and movies.

Well if the grizzly bear is already attacking hopefully it is the friend and i will be able to take off running.....the bear will never catch me as he will be slipping in what is coming out the bottom of my pant legs!!!!!

Hmmm..well, I guess it's a No Brainer...a Hunter would have to shoot the bear. A Hunter will be scared but also know where to shoot to kill. Survival of the fittest.
Mind you, in reality I am not a hunter, nor are there Grizzly Bears here in Australia, anI think I would brown stain my pants...but I reckon a hunter would know instinctively to shoot to kill. I don't think a hunter would like to be eaten!

Thank You for all of the wonderful posts! :) Some were very funny while others were serious, a good variety. :)

Well, according to http://www.sportsafield.com/hunting-stories/Grizzlydefense.htm and some other websites, the best way to survive a Grizzly Bear attack would be:

1. DO NOT RUN. Grizzly’s can run up to 30 mph(which is much faster than even the fastest human) Also running would trigger it’s predatory instincts even more and see you as prey.

2. You should hit the ground immediately and curl into the fetal position (covering your neck) and play dead for a while after the Grizzly leaves (they are known to wait around and see if their victim is really dead)

3. Either that or using Bear Pepper Spray would be your best defense against a grizzly bear attack. The spray might startle and confuse them enough that they will run away.

Shooting it in the head is another idea, like jollyman said but the success rate for the last only bullet stopping it is very low. It might end up missing or not even phasing the bear and just make him/her a lot angrier. That would then put you in even more danger.

I have enjoyed all of the posts and it was very hard to choose just one winner. Thank you all again for playing this game and I hope that you will enjoy the next person’s scenario just as much or even more than mine. :)  So for the moment you have all been waiting for the winner is flmagi as the best defense would be to play dead. :)

LOL   I watch Animal Planet a lot.

OK, here is the next scenario:
You're out on a boat with some friends, a sudden storm comes and the boat capsizes and is gone, but you all manage to get in the life raft and you all have life vests on. You are all very strong and physically fit. There is a possibility of swimming to shore, although it isn't visible from where you are.  What cha gonna do?

Well, it would depend if there was danger lurking in the water or not. If there was no upcoming waterfall or no vicious wild animals such as piranha or alligators then I would tell all of my friends to stay on the life raft. Since we would all be in a life raft and all have life vests on we should be safe from drowning and we should just let the current take the raft downstream if we were in a river. By allowing that to happen, you should be able to come into view of the shore after awhile or end up landing on shore.

Since I'm from Florida, I automatically thought open water (lol, my bad), like the ocean or Gulf of Mexico. Is it to late to specify open water?

Oh, that's okay. I'm sorry that I misunderstood you. :(

I would tell all of my friends to stay on the life raft. Since we would all be in a life raft and all have life vests on we should be safe from drowning. By staying on the raft you should hopefully be safe from sharks and the current would eventually carry you back to shore. If you have any items that would be able to help signal for help such as a mirror to reflect the sun off of would be helpful and a good idea to signal for help.

You shouldn't attempt to swim, because the current may be too strong for you to swim and the danger of sharks attacking might be very high. Also if you can't see the shore, you are probably way too far away from shore to make it swimming since you wouldn't know which way shore is.

I would have everyone stay in the raft and since all are physically fit we would use our hands as oars to steer the raft towards shore or perhaps take turns getting out yet hanging onto back of raft while kicking so as to steer it to shore, there is usually saftey in numbers in most senerios sticking together as a team is your best bet..

This is a scenario that happened recently in Florida, you may have heard about it on the news. 4 Pro football players were out fishing, A sudden storm came thru and the boat capsized. They did all manage to get their life vests on and get in the life raft.  Perhaps they were taking turns in the water, pushing the raft, I'm not sure why some were in the water at different points. One of the guys took his vest off, saying it was uncomfortable or was to small, I think he just disappeared during the night. One decided to make a swim for the shore.....gone.  One took his vest off and dove down into the water, never to be seen again. The 4th guy stayed in the raft with his vest on and was rescued. It was a very sad situation, that we were all watching closely when the Coast Guard was searching for them.

Error: My error in the story about the 4 football players......They did not have a life raft, but hung to the over turned boat.
Anyone interest in the story:
