Where to find inexpensive plus size clothes? Help!

Ok, so with losing weight I will need to buy some new clothes for spring. But my problem is i dont know where to shop for inexpensive plus size clothes. All stores I normally shop in is, Macys or Gap, Lane bryant or the Avenue (and there kinda expensive). The problem is I would normally never have a problem with spending $200 on a single item, but me and my boyfriend are saving money to get our own apartment this year. Thats going well, about to reach our $2,000 goal end of this month! So money wise, Im good...but I cant afford to save and spend at the same time. Any ideas? I know I will get money for my birthday (April 12) and I already told my boyfriend a gift card to any of those stores will work. So with that, birthday cash should be nothing less then $200, could be more (i never know what my family will give me but nothing less then $50 each).

But my question is do you guys know of any stores in the New York City/Long Island area that has inexpenisve plus size clothes? I have a Conways and Old Navy (but I cant wear everything from Old Navy) by me where I work and there stuff is ok for the price (cheap) so I know i will go look in there. Anything eles?

Thanks!

I guess its true on what they say.....losing weight will COST you more money then being overweight!!! How fare is that? They should reward us all for doing good and getting healthy!!!

Ross? It's a store. I KNOW there are Ross stores in NY. You can find nice outfits at affordable prices there. :) I warn you, at least in SOME places in Fl, that store is always a mess!!

(I don't know what's going on with the site or my browser that my comments are being posted twice)

What's your goal weight?

You can try TJ Max, they sell designer brands at a discount.  I am pretty sure they have plus sizes.  The selection isn't always great but it's worth a shot.

Hmmm....ok great I will check out those stores. Ross Stores, I would have to check. It might be too far from where I am. My goal weight is really to be 175lb....but I have two goals at this point.

1: to be 250 by July 5
2: to be 200 by December 31

Msniki, Congrats on the weight loss.  I thought of another store you can try.  Do you have a Kohls nearby?  They have pretty good sales fairly often.

Yes I have a few Kohls near me that I can go to. I just checked their website, and they seem to have really nice stuff. Im going to also try some outlet shopping and see what there prices are. I got outlets up in Riverhead and Deer Park, LI.

Sorry Prettykitty: Maybe I checked the wrong website? When I typed in Ross Stores, the site came up and my zip code 11377 and only 3 stores poped up. 2 in NJ and 1 in PA about 70 miles away.

I also like Kohl's.  They often have pretty big sales or coupons, so wait 'til either a sale or a mailer comes along.  I don't always find plus jeans/bottoms there that I like, though.

Fashion Bug is owned by the same company as Lane Bryant, but is priced lower and is a bit more youthful/trendy in it's style.

You are doing so well!  Very inspirational, I'm still "stuck" in my weight loss journey but it's great to hear how well you are doing!

Aww thanks wonko!!! I forgot about Fashion bug! Your right, i didnt see any bottoms I liked on the kohls website....maybe ill do shirts from there and pants from fashion bug. The problem is i love lane bryant pants....but the ones i normally wear are 39.95+ and thats way pricey!!! I think i may have a coupon thought....if you shop there often you might know of the coupons they have (spend 75 get 25 off spend 100 get 50 off and so forth) so maybe they will have a good sale.

I know i have to start soon, cause some of my pants keep falling down now!!!!!

I wish you luck wonko....i hope you get out of this funk your in!!!

hehe, I can relate.  I am sort of between sizes right now.  I'm using this accessory that doubles as a tractable pants-hoisting device, I think thin people call it a "belt."  I had pretty much forgotten about those for the last several years!

Like I said, the 'Bug is the cheap-o version of Lane Bryant.  Catherines, also owned by the same company, is the high end, even above LB.  But there are always sales and clearance racks...

i recently lost 30 pounds and was faced with the same problem.  i didnt want to buy clothes until i reached my ideal weight...but i also couldnt walk around with my clothes hanging off of me either.
i looked in the phone book and found some "high end" consignment shops...not thrift stores...big difference.  i was able to pick up a few things to get me through the process until i didnt want to loose anymore.  funny thing...i'm now addicted to designer consignment shops...lol.  there's nothing like picking up something that was originally $500.00 for $50.00.  the clothes in the high end shops are in PERFECT condition.

If you shop at Fashion Bug enough times, they will start sending you really good coupons...sometimes I walk out of the store paying less than $5 for 2 or 3 things. You don't have to spend a lot either, just go often and spend a little each time and you'll be on their mailing list...=)

If you go to Fashion Bug check out their Right Fit jeans. They have bootcut, relaxed and straight fit. I could'nt believe how much thinner I looked when I tried a pair on. They give you shape, lift your bottom and have stretch, very comfy.I looked taller too when I tried the bootcut pair on. Good luck with the shopping and congrats on losing weight. Remar

Do you have a sewing machine? You could also learn to alter some of your favorite clothes as you loose the weight. If you get good at it, you could start making some clothes from scratch too. It's always nice to be able to get exactly what you want, in the color and fabric you want. Making your own clothes costs about 1/4 of what you pay for store bought.
Congrats on the weight lose. Wish I could drum up some motivation to drop some pounds!
