First Nephrologist appt. What to ask and expect

I have my first Nephrologist appt on May 4th.  I am wondering what to expect and what should I ask?  I had an u/s that shows MSK.  Things on my list to ask:

MSK in both kidneys?
stones? How many?
special diet?
special med's?
avoid NSAID's?

Will they do a 24hr urine? Diabetes test? IVP X-ray? Bloodwork? Kidney Function test?

I also have a long list of my past history to mention.

What am I forgetting?
Thanks so much. I want to be prepared!

It sounds like you are very prepared and informed. Try looking into Vitamin D. deficiencies and chronic kidney infections (biofilm infection) before you go. You might want to add them to the list.
Do you have a urologist too? If not, maybe they can refer you to one they work well with. It is good to have a treatment team that communicates with each other.
Best wishes at your appointment.

And what I've done is write it all down in a little spiral notebook and bring it with me to the appt so I don't forget anything and when you leave you can immediately write down the answers!

My last CBC was done about a month ago and it wasn't on an empty stomach. Will that skew some results?

I'm not sure .. I get so confused.  I think if they say non-fasting it's ok ?? but not 100% sure.  We have a CBC tracker you can plug in your test results to here @ MedHelp that's totally free!

Do you live in constant pain even when there is no infection present on UA or a stone in the ureter?

The big thing really is to ask them to check you Vit D levels since so far all but one of us who have done so have been low, I was very low,
but my last test shows significant improvement.

Do get copies of ALL blood work and test to keep and compare yourself as time goes on.

Hope you apt. goes well!

Shelly~ I don't know if I have an infection now or stones. But my pain has been aching for the last few weeks.  Sometimes, it wakes me up at night.  I'm marking Vit D on my list now! Thanks :)
