Okay, so I saw the Nephrologist who two years ago told me I was fine. I have been on blood pressurePressure ulcer medication for 6 years now for hypertension. Right now I am on Tiazac. He is changing my Rx to Indapamide 2.5 mg. He called it a "water pill". I asked if I would urinate more frequently and he said no. I asked if it was a diureticDiuretic ap-es and he says yes....
DUH! So, of course it's going to make me urinate more. The pharmacist told me to take it in the morning. (as to not pee all night I am guessing) She also denied it would make my pee more often, saying it affects everyone differently.
I found it all pretty annoying. I am worried about the Rx change. The Tiazac has worked very well for me.
So, I have to go back in 6 weeks. He has me going for two more sets of bloodwork. I know he's checking my Vit D level.
The reason to take it in the morning is to increase urination... we don't drink at nite. You are correctCorrect (new formula) it is a diuretic and will increase urine output. I hope he is monitoring your potassium...... eat alot of bananas, yougart, baked potatoes things high in potassium. Best Luck... Cara
Well, everything went pretty well for the first two weeks. I didn't notice a huge difference in my urine output. I had a hard time remembering to take it in the morning as my routine is to take my pills before bed!
However, I woke up two days ago with a very irritated looking hivey rash. It covers my chest and back and it's really bad around my neck. This is two weeks in, but I know it takes a while to build in your system. I researched it a bit more and found it is a sulfa based drug so I am assuming I have developed an allergy. I phoned both my family and the nephrologist who are both out of office til tues.(long weekend). One of the nurses at the nephrologist phoned him at home and he said to go off the Indipamide and NOT go back on my Tiazac but call if my blood pressure went up. ?? Stupid advice in my opinion considering we are heading into a long weekend but...
Oh boy, but I agree monitor your levels. He may know something we don't like
the length of time the meds do stay built up in your body etc. This might explain the rash taking 2 weeks as well. I am just guessing though. If you don't have a BP cup get one they have several very reasonable now for even being able to check it yourself.
If your levels do go up, call the hospital and ask if they can Paige your docotor..
Wonder why he's changing the med if no symptoms?
Here's some side effects I found for you, Urinary frequency isn't listed .. this could be great news! I was surprised, too, it isn't on the list!

Keep us posted on the Vit. D, too!
