Can Perimenopause cause these problems

I had pre-eclampsia with both of my children and being that unwell was horrible - I am now getting the same symptoms in my early 40's and the Dr's have tested me for every from neurological to endocrinogical to rheumatological!

I've been having symptoms which have been getting increasingly worse over the last few years. It started 4 years ago with extreme malaise pain and numbness down my left side and pressure in my head. The only results that came back were slightly low calcium. That episode lasted 6 weeks.

I was fine for about a year and then ended up in hospital with extremely high blood pressure and numbness down my face. CT scan showed all fine - diagnosed with atypical migraine. The feeling of malaise was there, and this time new symptom of minor tachycardia. These symptoms lasted 3 months then disappeared and I felt suddenly better.

I had a few minor episodes during the next year which only lasted a few weeks when I felt very tired had pain down my left side and felt very fuzzy.

Then last October the feelings came back with avengence - malaise, numbness down my face and pain and pins and needles in my left hands, episodes where my blood pressure can go up and I get episodes of tachycardia. The tachycardia tends to come at night and will be anywhere from 100-150 beats per minute. During this my blood pressure goes up significantly, the neuralgia pain down my left side increases and I also become very twitchy and jerky especially if i am trying to drop off to sleep. Also I almost always feel like I need to do a bowel movement and feel quite sick. The current episode has gone on for a month and the tachycardia is getting worse and pins and needles down my left side is worse. The twitching is also getting worse at night. I have a lot of tenderness in my left breast only. I ended up in hospital with severe tachycardia in February and the results showed low potassium, very low phosphates and ecg was fine.

Since then the symptoms come and go and I feel rubbish. I have however kept a diary and noticed that the tachycardia came just before or around my period. I get bouts of feeling really unwell and feel like I might pass out with a pressure in my head and at this point my blood pressure spikes. These episodes come around 3-4 days before my period and this last month have come with hot flushes. I have also this month had night sweats for 3 nights before my period. My periods have been changing - they were always 28 days and can now be 21 or 35 and can be really heavy for 1 day and then nothing or very light to only spotting.

Does this sound like perimenopause and can it cause all the above symptoms? I am due to see a menopause specialist in November. I am on betablockers and calcium blockers which are now controlling the tachycardia and generally by blood pressure but not when it decides to spike - nothing seems to stop that. As a footnote, my son was born by csection 4½ weeks early because they couldn't control my spiking blood pressure.

Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Wow!!! I hate that you are going through this but I thought I was all alone. I have been experiencing tachycardia before my cycle along with pvc's. This has been going on for two years. I also had preclampsia. When I went to the doc about this the first time he suggested it may be perimenopause...I was only 32 at the time, I will be 35 in a few months. I figured I was too young to experience this. My cycle is just the same as you say yours is....I am on beta blockers and clonzepam...it has caused me so much anxiety! Please let me know what you find out!!! And hope you feel well soon!

Thanks

I see one of the leading specialists in Australia on 3rd November. Did they not suggest the pill for you or does your Tachy and BP exclude it?
