I am 52. Last May my doctor took me off the pill as my FSH test said I was approaching menopause. I did not have a period for 9 months. Then I had very heavy bleeding for 1 month. I had a variety of tests including a biopsy and ultrasound. A new FSH test indicated I am now in menopause. With the exception of anemia, which has now been corrected, and a thickened uterineDysfunctional uterine bleeding (dub) Endometrial cancer Fetal heart and uterine contraction monitor Intrauterine device Intrauterine growth restriction Normal uterine anatomy (cut section) Uterine anatomy Uterine fibroids Uterine prolapse lining I am fine. After 2 months of no period I started bleeding again and have been bleeding for 2 1/2 months. 1 month ago my doctor inserted a mirena IUD. 10 days ago I started provera 5mg and I am still bleeding. Not heavy, but consistent. My doctor has prescribed another 10 days of provera. He really wants me to wait 3 months to see if the IUD works. He thinks it will. He says after 3 months I should have either no period or some spotting.
Is it normal to keep bleeding even after provera and the IUD? Should I wait the 3 months? The next treatment option would be either an endometrial ablation or a hysterectomy. My doctor says at some point in my life I will need a hysterectomy as I have a mild uterine prolapse that will only get worse.
