Estrogen

I am 49 and still have regular periods, every 28 days.  Sometimes lasts for 8 or 9 days, then spot until I ovulate.  Does estrogen rise or fall during periods, does it rise or fall when you don't have a period?  Also, I have been having quite a bit of facial hair, which is very annoying, does that have anything to do with estrogen and what might can be done about it?   Also, my tubes are tied.  Haven't had any bloodwork done in about 9 years since my last child was born.  Any suggestions?    Thanks
