Fibroids growing after menopause

What could make fibroids begin to grow three years post menopause?  Has anyone had this happen?
I have no bleeding, but a lot of discomfort and bloating, pressure.  I do not take hormones.  Could this be a hormone imbalance?
Thanks

It could be that your body is still producing estrogen over and above what should be at this stage of things and feeding the fibroids.

Has your doc suggested anything to help this situation yet?  I'm assuming that you've had an ultrasound to know that they have grown so, I'm wondering if your doc has also checked the thickness of your uterine lining?  It sounds like it is hormone related but, only your doc can do the necessary testings to say for sure.  Our bodies are whacky around this time in Life.  :)

I read what you said about the estrogen.  I have lost about 15 lbs since December and have a lot more to go.  Where did you hear the info about estrogen and loosing weight?  That makes sense, but I have never had a doctor say that. I have not taken any replacement hormones and have not had a period for 3 years.

I am due to have an MRI next week to check out everything in my abdomen ...not only have I had a lot of discomfort in the lower pelvic area, but also in the upper.  I was being treated for bladdar infection for 2 rounds of antibiotic and ended up with reflux which I am now taking a pill which seems to control it.  I am still burping and have a lot of gas.  All these symptoms get so confusing....  with the pressure and back pain and bloating..things seemed confused!
I am having blood work Friday and may ask for an exam before the MRI next week.  My last USound was April 08 and lining of uterus was 3mm at that time and ovaries not visible.

Thanks for your info.
