Help! Crazy irregular menstruation!

I am in my 40s and have started having super irregular menstruation in terms of when it is coming (just when I least expect it), how much (a few spots versus a waterfall) and for how long.  This irregularity is driving me nuts.  Short of wearing a tampon and a pantyliner and carrying extra tampons at all times every single day for the next xx years, what else can I do?

I had been on birth control pills but that gave me bad mood swings, so I hesitate to go there again.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

It's possible that a different birth control pill may work better. Hopefully, you can find something to regulate your cycle. I had a hysterectomy and regret it big time!

You might have some success with balancing vitamins and minerals. I was having awful periods and diagnosed with Adenomyosis.
I'm 47. Unfortunately I need a hysterectomy. Doctors put me on Progesterone only pill and it made me really sick. I stopped taking them. Since I've added me supplements the bleeding is normal to very light.

You could also try herbal tinctures and teas.

Nettle Tea has iron and calcium along with other things.

Herbal tinctures:
Shepherd's Purse
Lady's Mantle
Raspberry Leaf
