Hot Flashes with Yasmin

Hot Flashes with Yasmin

Hi,
I am turining 35 next month and have been using Yasmin for 3+ years until I developed hot flashes. So my gyn suggested I stop the Yasmin and get my 3-Day FSH tests done after 30 days off the pill. The results were normal meaning the Yasmin was causing the hot flashes. I would still like to use a contraception method as I am not ready to have children for at least 2-4 years but don't know what to consider. I looked into IUD's but think the risk of infertitlity and lining complications would not be a godd choice for someone still looking to have kids down the road.

Would prefer to not just use condoms and am in a monogamous relationship and married. My ob has suggested tryinbg YAZ which is a lower dose than Yasmin, but would that help my hot flashes? Don't have them as much since off the pill..

Please advise or at least recommnd several pill options. Do I need a higher estrogen/progestin % to combat the flashes.???

Thanks

Hot flashes are an uncommon side effect of Yasmin and Yaz and it unclear what causes it or why it would happen. Both pills have a unique progestin, drospirenone, so most any other brand is likely not to cause the problem if it were due to that and the estrogen used in Yas and Yasmin is commonly used to treat hot flashes. These are two of the most common pills in us in the United States. While an IUD is associated with a risk of infertility, it is a very safe method of birth control in a monogamous relationship.

However, consider thinking about having your children earlier than in 2 - 4 years. Each year after 35 the chances of getting pregnant go down a little and after 38 the chances go down at a greater rate.
