Insomina

Anyone battling this problem? I even take medication for not sleeping, and for some reason lately doesn't seem to be working, was wondering if it was because I'm considered premenopausal. Any suggestions anyone?

I Havent slept much in the last 6 months- a year, so I can feel ya. It gets to the point of total exhaustion then I crash and burn. Everything and everyone is suffering from my lack of sleep! Nothing helps and the Drs havent went as far to give me a sleep aid. The OTC sleep aids do nothing but give me restless leg.My Physicians assistant acted as if I was a raving lunatic, told me to get a pet! Needless to say I am about disgusted and I have an appt in a few weeks with my gyne. Am going to try the bioidenticals and see if that helps. Dont know what else to do. Keep you informed as to how this works out! Good luck to you all <3

It is TERRIBLE not sleeping, but since I am taking the 5 htp and passion flower glycerite at night it is better. I sometimes take a littel melatonin too ( 1/4 pill). I have found now that I am back on natural progesterone my sleep is getting better again. It is still NOT great but I am falling asleep after a long time laying there. Before I layed in bed all night and did not sleep- absolutely horrible and was so exhausted.
I too tried so many different sleeping aids/pills, they either did not work or caused bad headache/hangover next day or were addicting- so I was afraid of long term use.
I think hormones cause it all for me.... can't wait til menopause is over !!!!
Recently went back to visit hometown and got together with high school girl friends. Menopause was our topic of conversation and we all shared and laughed. It was so nice to know I am NOT crazy, and not alone in my feelings, symptoms,ect..

Oh my gosh! Do I know what THIS feels like. It gave me a hard time too. I'd fall asleep exhausted at midnight only to wake up again at three, not be able to sleep, but feel like death-warmed-up. Then I'd sleep again eventually, only to wake up and wake up on the hour every hour!! Until seven when I couldn't bear it any longer!

What definitely helped me was ST JOHN'S WORT Herbal tincture (4ml. 3 times a day) and AGNUS CASTUS (also called VITEX AGNUS CASTUS, or CHASTE TREE) Herbal tincture (2-3ml. 3 times a day)

But nothing worked exactly like magic. Those herbs definitely did help though so I only woke up once, or managed to get six full hours sleep. If you try them they might work for you?

All I can say is.....I still get a few hot flashes, even years after the menopause. BUT I sleep normally again, and very well. Don't worry. Your sleep will come back!

Good to you! My Gyn would not do bioidentical hormones... only would prescribe synthtic. She is great for checkup but had to look elsewhere to find someone to help. The dr. I found calls herself antiaging dr. She deals with hormones only, so she tested alot of things which go with hormones such as thyroid, B-12, iron levels, ect.
There are some great books to use as resources for drs-
Suzanne Somers
Christine Northrup
Dr. ? Lee
Good luck!!

OH MY STARS!! you should go read some of my rantings and ravings. I have not slept for over 3 hours in 4 years.

I have just started on the BHRT, DHEA, Testosterone, and progesterone. All compounded. Have not been on them long enough to see any benefit. I say it is Gods grace that I have not totally flipped out. The exhaustion has just taken over my life and rendered me almost useless.

I am hoping to see a turnaround soon.

jadore,
Yes, I am taking bioidenticals- that is my natural progesterone. I personally would NOT take any synthetic hormones after reading the cancer effects.

My 1st dr. put me on premarin.... wow, after sevveral days of HEAVY bleeding and bad emotions I stopped... it was NOT for me.

Now I know better.... will not  giive up my natural progesterone  ( compounded for me), I feel so much better on it... not great but I am working on that...
Good luck tp you.

Yes, thats me!! SEVERE insomnia .I am perimenopausal too ( age 49).
Get your hormones checked. When my progesterone was really low, had high estrogen, my insomnia was worse. I tried different sleep meds... hated the side effects or were addicting.
I now am working with naturopath.  I am taking natural progesterone , take 25 mg of
5 htp at night ( 1/2 capsule) and 1/2 melatonin if needed and I am finally starting to sleep again... after  6 months of little or no sleep at night. Thank goodness.
If this is perimenopause... what will menopause be like?o?? I don't think I want to know!!!!!!!!!
