Less Frequent Periods, missed periods during perimenopause

I am 45 years old this year and my period is over a week late! I don't think I'm pregnant and my periods are usually much closer together if anything. I'm sort of freaking out. I read that it's common to have longer times between periods, but I have never in my life been this late (unless I was pregnant of course). Is anyone else experiencing this at my age? I thought I was a bit too young to be either missing periods or being this late.

Peri menopause for me followed what is a pretty common pattern.  I had periods frequently and they were heavy.  Heavier than they had been.  But of shorter duration.  So, a quick two days of monster periods.

But everyone is different.  My friend had hers space out.

A good thing to do is to actually get your hormones checked by your doctor.  They can answer this question for you.  Sometimes we have periods that don't come frequently together but are spaced out due to other things like a slow thyroid. So, talk to your doctor to find out if there is another reason.  What is your age by the way?

You could be starting perimenopause when anything goes... shorter or longer cyles, shorter or longer periods, heavier or lighter periods. And this can go on for 5+ years.
