Menopause-Birth control

I just had a blood test at the Dr. office last week and they called and said my FSH level was 44 and I could stop taking my birth control pills now.  I am 52 years old and do NOT want to end up pregnant.  Do I need to worry with my FSH level that high?  Along with all the other symptoms I might get I do not want to have to worry about that too.

Thank You,

Deb

I can understand you not wanting to get pregnant at this age! LOL  I'm 53 and there's no way that I want to go through that at this stage of my life either.  I'll wait for Grandmaland now....and, I'm by far, not ready for that either yet LOL!   :)

Ok, so your FSH levels are showing that you are menopausal which means that the likelihood of a pregnancy at this stage in the game is not exactly a high chance of happening.  It's not by any means high, by the way.  It's in menopausal ranges.  They say that at age 40 + the ability to get pregnant decreases by percentage with each passing year and by the age of 50, our ability to get pregnant easily has really decreased.  Impossible?  NO! LOL  That's why they tell us all that until we've gone 12 full months without a period....continue using contraception!!!

If this were me, I'd likely WANT to be off of the birth control pills for a lot of reasons anyways but, to be on the safe side, I'd come off of them and see what my periods do.  If I continued to get periods, I'd use other methods of birth control like condoms (male/female) until it had been 12 months without a period as usually suggested.  The fact that you've been on birth control means that you don't really know where your periods truly are and I'd have to question the validity of the FSH levels while on birth control?????  It's still adding hormones into your body???

All in all, I'd say that it's time to try coming off the birth control anyways and see what your body does on its own over the next few months after discontinuation but, I'd also ask your doc if he/she meant "NO birth control" at all???

This is where I am at right now.I am 45 and just waiting for hubby to become sterile after his V.I didn't have a period for 14 months. it has come back but it is time to be off as other health stuff may be caused by the birth control pill.also, if you are on the pill there is no accurate blood test to check your FHS levels already been told by a specailist that i have to be off the pill for at least one month before they will do my blood work.I am not looking forward to the rollercoaster ride that's gonna happen when I go off but I have a product called Healthy Hormones by Can Prev that is formulated to help with all these fluctuating hormones.
