Menopause blood test

Menopause blood test

I am 55 years old and had a menopause blood test done in February of 2007 that showed I am in menopause.  I had  a period in June of this year and my dr. said that I shouldn't be bleeding at the level my blood test showed.  I thought you waited for twelve months before you had to worry about  problems.  Now she is having me do several test to get to the bottom of why I am still bleeding.  Does anyone else know if a menopause blood test can determine when you should no longer be bleeding?

Hi, just a question...when you had your blood work done in Feb, had you had no period for a year up until then?  I think if your body is in menopause then there should be no bleeding.  Will your GYN do an ultrasound just to make sure there aren't any cysts or anything going on?

I've had several blood tests to determine my hormone levels but the most reliable was a saliva test.  It was done at a certain time during my cycle.  I am in perimenopause but did have an ovarian cyst last year that put me in that state, I believe.  Up until then I was as regular as could be.  I'm 48.

Hope you find out soon!

I was having periods at the time of the blood test  in February .  I have only gone four months without a period.  That was why I was so confused, I thought you were to go twelve months but the dr. said my test showed that I shouldn't be having any bleeding.   I did go  for the ultrasound on Monday but haven't got the results.  I had a cyst  back in 2004 but it went away after a month.

Hmm, Glad you got the ultrasound.  I'm assuming it was a vaginal?  If the blood work reads menopause and you're bleeding then something is going on.  Are you keeping track of when you bleed?  Are the timeframes consistant with a period (21 to 28 or so days)?  Maybe ask the doctor to test you on day 20-23 if the bleeding is regular.  That's when I do the saliva test.  If nothing is regular then maybe a CT also?

Waiting for results is difficult.  Take care.
