ON THE VERGE OF MENOPAUSE -- SPOTTING EVERY DAY

by Elmer117, Dec 04, 2008 08:35PM
I am a 50 year old female (have never been pregnant) whose periods are now a few months apart.  For the past few years, I have spotted on a daily basis.  In June 2005, my Gynocologist did a D & C.  I was flow-free, including spotting, for three months afterward.  Then the spotting began again.  The flow is brown or brown and bright red.  During times of physical exertion or personal stress, the spotting flow is heavier and fills a mini-pad.  I wear a regular tampon just about every day.  My Gyno. wants to do another D & C, to be sure I'm cancer-free (I was after the prior D & C she did) before she considers any other causes & treatments.  What should I do?  She told me she could do a yearly D & C on me, but I don't want to have regular D & Cs for my spotting problem.  Is it hormone related?  Could it be thyroid related?  Or is it just my uterus having the last laugh?

To: You are not crazy!
Your ARE peri-menopausal
I too am 50 and for approx 1 1/2 yrs. I had the same type of spotting as you had
My paps all came back "normal"
So I read up on Bio Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy - Suzanne Sommers has a couple of books out that help clean up alot of my doubts
I have now been on a topical Progesterone Cream for 6 months.
I started with 30 mg., but I got hot flashes with that strength.
I had it reduced to 20 mg. and I am period-free and no other negative symptoms Ie.) Headaches, moodiness, hot flashes, tiredness...nothing!
Check this out in your area - there is bound to be an individual who can help you!
ps.) Premarin is not natural - it is derivative of horse urine!  NOT FOR ME!
Good luck!
Christine
