One ovary

by janetn, Sep 17, 2007 07:04PM
I had one ovary and fallopian tube removed 8 weeks ago. I have been having many hot flashes
(about 20 per day) I am 46 yrs old and previouly had no menopausal symptoms. I did also have my tubes tied 10 years ago. Is the the ovary that is left supposed to be taking over for the one they removed? Does it take time for it to take over or have I just been very quickly put into menopause
by the surgery?

Usually when one ovary is removed, the other will take over in time. At 46, the loss of one ovary might have had sufficient affect and caused perimenopause. There is a good chance that in the weeks and months to come, things will get more back to normal, however, it isn't possible to say for sure.
