Peri menopause and anxiety

My gyneco has just told me I am suffering from peri menopause.  I feel very anxious and have recently come off synthroid (treatment for hypothryroidism) as it was not doing me any good at all.  My periods are painful and quite regular, but I get so hot, in fact I wake up roasting and very hyper.  It's really strange but throughout the day I get better as the day goes on.  To combat the horrible anxiety and mood swings, I take black cohosh, evening primrose oil, magnesium citrate and chaste berry.  I think it's helping but have only taken all this for 2 weeks so it may take longer to work.

Does anyone have any tips for me on how they managed during this awful time?

I too am a Hashi/ hypothyroid person going through perimenopause. I was just at my doctor who is a bio identical MD - and found I have an estrogen dominance over my progestrone.  He has prescribed a pretty pricey all natural progestrone cream I should be getting next week.

Synthroid did nothing for me after my ablation for Graves disease and I was sick and gaining weight for 6 yrs. I found being on Armour has helped the hypothyroid symptoms - but the anxiety is still hanging along with all the weight.

I am hoping the progestrone cream as he says balances me back out and relieves some of the stress for me.

Has anyone else did the progestrone cream? From what I read it seems to help with getting the weight off too - of course with diet and exercise.

Thanks for your response.
I have surgery to removed fibroids next week and then after that I will be discussing some kind of hormone balancing with my gyneco.  I will send you a PM once we have this discussion about bioidentical hormone balancing.

A doctor recommended I try Natural Balance Menopause Formula by Flourish Wellness (only available on the internet) and daily exercise.  I started those things as well as using soy based products.  My menopause symptoms have been held at bay now for 4 years.  I can also recommend "As We Change" catalog and website which sells useful items for women of a certain age.  My doctor has recently suggested bioidentical hormone balancing but another doctor has recommended against it as possibly increasing cancer risk.  I'm interested in anything you might know about that.  Thanks!

I just read about B6 toxicity, so just be careful how much vit B6 you are taking as it is not water soluble and can lead to some serious side effects.  I am going to be looking for one that is without B6 from now on.

You are very welcome.  And you are not alone!!!!

One more thing, is that I am astonished at all the B vitamins in the Menopause One supplement I purchased.  Its like got 200 % of daily recomended dosages...   and B is the "stress" vitamin!!  Its my fourth day on it.   I feel pretty good!!

Thanks for answering my thread.  I was starting to feel like the only one feeling this way!
I will try valerian too.  I am a firm believer in natural supplements where possible to help and although the effects are not immediate (can take weeks or even months to work), the outcome is often much better than medications that have side effects in any case.
I love yogurt and have been automatically eating loads of it at the moment, and beans, just like you suggest.
Thanks for your support!

Hi,

You proabably don't feel like taking another herbal supplement,   but valerium is very good for its calming affect.  You should take it at night with some Milk.  (warm milk)
I started taking chase berry too just yesterday.  I also got a well rounded vitamin specifically for menopause.    Its called menopause one.    Look for one with valerium in it.  B vitamins are very important for proper nerve functioning.  Try eating some beans,,  and my favorite...  yogurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Yogurt produces b vitamins while you digest it!

ps   I am not a doctor!!!
Good luck!!!
