Perimenopause or beginning of menopause?

Hi. My periods the last 6 months or so have only been for like 2 days a month. I'm wondering if this could be a sign of perimenopause or menopause getting ready to start? I'm 42. It's hard to go by my mom because she went into early menopause because she had a hysterectomy in her 30's. I don't have hot flashes. I do have a problem sleeping and I'm tired a lot. Are these signs too? Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat or not. Thanks.

I'm 42 as well. I have had 2-days of light period since 5 years now. My ob-gyn just assumed its perimenopause and I've always taken her word for it. I've not had any tests but from what I have started hearing on the forum(I only just started), I will push to have some tests done to confirm either way.  I don't have any meopausal symptoms although I did have hotflashes 4 years ago and I stopped having them when I started dressing light to bed. Thanks you both.

Thank you! Finally someone answered! :)
The last Cat Scan I got they said there was some bone loss in my spine. Is that to be expected? Should I take more calcium?

I am 40 yrs old and my periods have always been irregular.  My periods stopped when I stopped taking bc, my doctor ordered a FSH test and it came back elevated at 79.4 which is menopausal.
I never had hot flashes or any symptoms associated with menopause. I am still shocked that I have reached menopause.  Please have the doctor order a full test for your hormones such as FSH, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, LH and also have a bone density test.  The bone density test is very important for the women who have premature menopause.  Do not allow your doctor give you the same speech I got when I was 31 years old that it was just stress.
