Post menopause

I am 51 and in Aug 2006 my FSH level was 3.4, March 2007 4.0, August 2007 1.3 August 2008 43.0. I do not take any medication and am still having regular periods every month. What are the odds that my FSH level is incorrect and if it is correct when can I expect to stop having regular periods?

Hi, Well it depends what day you did your FSH on, it should be taken on the 2nd or 3rd day of your period to give a totally accurate results. To be conisdered in the menopausal range it should be over 28 at this part of your cycle. It's the time of the cycle that's so important as non-menopausal women can expect a high FSH prior and during ovulation. If you are still having periods you're more like to be in the peri-menopause leading up to the menopause. Usually though, you periods at this time start to come closer together and you start to get hot flushes etc. Age 51 is the average age of onset for menopause though. Hope this helps.
