Pre-menopausal

I have a question about my mother.  She is pre-menopausal and her periods are extending to like 9-10 days lately.  Usually they are normally only 5-6 days long. And they are HEAVY! Is this normal?

She should definately go to her GYN to get herself checked out, but periods can get longer, shorter, more painful, more clots, etc.. during the 40's.  I started having very painful periods at age 41, and am 51 now and just really trying to get into true menopause.  I'm still having problems.  I plan to get back to the GYN myself.  Your Mom may be estrogen dominant at this stage and may need to take some natural progesterone to help offset her symptoms.  I wish the GYN doctor had told me that back then. LOL, PMS all the time since I was 41 and I'm still having problems.  But I'm on the right track now.

Thanks...I dint think I was ever going to get an answer.  lol  I will tell her that.  She mentioned something to me about going to her GYN but she hasnt said anything after that.  I will ask her.  But what you are saying makes alot of sense.  I hope things work out for you.  Take care and thanks again!
