Pre-menopause?

by 40smama, Aug 13, 2009 06:18PM
Dear Doctor:

I'm so confused.  I just turned 46 and I had a baby 15 months ago.  Since then, my periods have been so strange - irregular & now I haven't had one in 3 months (I'm not pregnant - tubes tied).  My sex drive is completely gone which is horrible for me because it's always been pretty high.  I've put on weight - after my pregnancy, I lost all of my baby weight only to gain it back a couple of months later.  My doctor is currently testing my thyroid but haven't gotten those results back.  I'm now thinking this has more to do w/menopause than with recovering from pregnancy as it's been 15 months.

I've never had any female problems - no endometriosis, etc - I have (or had) regular periods - 28-30 days apart on the dot.  When I turned 40, the flow wasn't as much - it lightened to some degree so I figured I was in perimenopause.  I conceived via IVF (with donor eggs) and though my FSH was tested then, I never got that number.  I'm sure you need more history but that's all I can think of right now.  It just seems that my period stopping and my sex drive disappearing is more than a coincidence.

My husband who's a pharmacist wants to do some kind of hormone test to check estrogen, progestins, testosterone, & DHEA.  I wonder what your opinion is.  I'm sure you can only give a limited one but I would appreciate any help that you can show me.  I'm really sad right now about this (the sex drive, not the period thing).  Thank you for any light you can shed!

Not to sound overly negative, but this is ridiculous.  I paid $19 to get an answer from the doctor and I see that nothing has been done & it's been over a week.  Maybe that's too soon but I can see now from this forum that the doctor's hasn't been on since January!  I would've never paid anything had I taken the time to see that!

Nonetheless, I think either MH shouldn't have this forum or definitely shouldn't take money from people who have honest questions about this subject.  I'm not the only person on here who's paid money to ask the doctor a question and haven't received any help!

Ridiculous!

This Forum doesn't charge people to post questions and get answers from Doctors.  Who did you Pay?  I have gotten many answers to my questions and never paid one red cent.

Yes, it did.  It charged me $19 to ask this question.  You can try it for yourself and see what happens.  From what i understand,  this is a new occurence on the expert forums, not the community ones.  As you can see, no doctor has answered this forum since January which is completely unacceptable!

I just read a book called " hormones, health, and happiness" by Steven Hotze. It will help you understand what you may be going thru. After 3 years I just found answers to all my questions. I think it will help you.  A prayer away
