Surgical Menopause and Hair Loss

Hi girls, Has anyone had any success in treating severe hairloss due to loss of hormones? I am interested in trying the Maca, but wondering if there have been any alternative treatments tried and tested by anyone on here.Or if Maca has worked for anyone with my problem.

Brief background- surgical hysterectomy in dec 2007, age 49.Ovaries removed ( against my wishes i might add) 2008- suffered from all the standard menopause symptoms, plus added bonus of bowel adhesions and prolapse due to removal of cervix( which was also totally unneccassary) By the way, anyone suffering from Prolapse, if you are waiting to until you are ready for surgery, the Best thing i have found is to wear a gstring over the top of your undies , for support. works wonders, and you don't need to buy any expensive and ugly, bulky prolapse pant.

I have refused any HRT, and have managed ok, i guess , although suicidal  depths of depression has raised its ugly head on occasions.I used to council depressed youth for 15 years and never suffered from depression before, so I see this as a positive, because now i know where these kids are coming from. Stress and lack of emotional support , plus the lack of hormones, plays a HUGE part in this, for us ladies. The depression has lasted until today, but it is now starting to become very managable, with nutrition. It Will go, eventually!
I had all the tests, neurological, blood work ups, endocrinological, dermatoligists, you name it, I have been there, just to be pro active in my own health. i also do all my own research as the doctors realy are not interested in finding your problems out, unless you are specific and know what you are talking about. They take the easy way out, because they do not have the time to give you. Time means money, and they are running a business.
It was found I was totally deficient in B12 and vitamin D, and since i have started taking these suppliments regularly.I have always formulated my own vitamin and suppliment regime and have found in the past, I can get myself well, as long as I take the right things.
I would highly recommend that any girls out there, thinking about HRT, to ONLY consider the bioidentical homones, in any case. Dr Lee's books are a godsent.
1 year after the surgery, I had some lumps in my breast, but they were only cysts, from my bodies hormonal regulation. If this happens to you, do not panick, it probably is not cancer, and it is very easy and painless to get the cysts attended to.
I decided to have hormonal blood works every 6 months to see exactly what was going on. In the first year, my estrogen and progesterone levels were still normal. my body's stores were still in tact to a certain degree. In 2009, as the stores started to deplete, the depression got a lot worse, and my hair shedding became obscene.Suddenly at the start of 2010, I lost all my eyebrows, and about 4 months ago, my hair is starting to show male pattern baldness- a beautiful, smooth and shiny receding hairline in a halo from ear to ear, very thin hair in my usual part, which is showing a full 1 cm line of sparse hair, and greying all over.My skin has thinned and is showing huge wrinkles and lines from my mouth, with patchy crepey texture. All in one year. The thinning hair is becoming my main fear and problem.I have coped with no eyebrows for over a year now, and just make a joke of it, and incredibly, they are starting to grow back, hair by hair. I have no idea why.The dermatologist has no clue, and is testing me for 'toxicity', but i dont have any faith in that one.

I have stopped using hair dye, as the research shows some pretty terrible ingredients in the dye, which over a period of 30 years, may not be so good for ones head. I have researched every hair loss site, every medical site on new and improved medications, but I am still drawing a blank. I have tried Regaine once, and it gave me dizzyspells, so that is not an option. I hate any pharmaceutical medication, so drugs, at this point, are out of the question.I have tried a natural product called 'hair more" which is mainly made of grape seed extracts and saw palmetto. This seemed to stop the hairfall, but totally dried up the scalp and made my hair brittle, and my scalp itchy. I am currently trying a weekly regime of  applying evening primrose oil and omega 3, and natural progesterone cream, and taking daily Biotin, Vit D,C,B12,E and iron. Soya products are the next step, but the research also has too many negatives to stay on this for too long. The hairloss, for me, is the worst thing that could happen. My hair has been my obsession all my life, and it is the most devistating thing, when the thought of baldness creeps in. All the other factors will eventually subside, with time. But hair, once its gone, its gone, I was a 50 year old who looked like a 35 year old with beautiful long black hair, and now, in a matter of a year, i look like a 55 year old with wrinkled skin and bald patches. Not good.
My skin has improved slightly, by apllying deep scrubs and by using Life cell, and now,Derma genesis hyaluric acid, but I can see fillers may be the only way to go in the future (and i hate the idea)
But the hairloss is aweful and i need to find something somewhere to address this. Has anyone out there suffered the same thing post menopause and found anything to stop, halt, minimize it?
please excuse spelling as i have no time to check.
Has anyone STARTED on Bio identical hormones 3 years after their surgery? I just feel that its too late for me to start, because when you do again, stop, I will have to go through all this again.
Oh oh, it is so much fun being a woman, but then again, i would never be a man!
