Thickening of the uterine lining

by Baquera, Jul 02, 2009 05:56PM
In April I had extensive blood work, CAT scans of the chest, abdomen and pelvis, bone scan and everything
was negative.  This was done at Sloan Kettering Hosp. in NYC.  In June I went to my regular gyn at which
time I had an ultra sound. I was told by the technician that everything looked normal. The doctor said her
exam was normal. Three days later the doctor called and told me that she wants to do a biopsy because
the uterine lining was slightly thick.  She said it was nothing to worry about and was in no hurry to do this. My scheduled appointment is for 8/10/09.
I am worried sick and feel that this should be done right away.  Should I have this done immediately?

Sounds like your doc is in no panic so, I'd be calm about it.  You don't say whether you are in menopause or peri but, as a general idea from everything that I have heard, it takes years of having a thickened endometrium to have anything "serious" to be worried about.  From my understanding, it's usually due to a dominance of estrogen that causes the build-up.  The fact that the doc has said "slightly thick" on top of being in no hurry, likely means this is all just precautionary testing rather than any real concern from all that I've read about this sort of thing.  Another month is not going to hurt but, if it's going to cause you concern to wait, perhaps, peace of mind is worthy of trying to move it up?  Otherwise, I'd leave it as is and relax! :)
