Uterine Ablation and Menopause

Hi, I am 42yrs young black female, healthy, atheletic, and no kids.  My doctor recently told me I had a couple polyps and I am scheduled for a D&C.  She also mentioned if I am no longer thinking about kids, to go ahead with the uterine ablation.  I want to go ahead with the procedure, but i have a couple questions:

1.  What happens to the blood that normally would release during your period?
2.  Am I really too old to have a kid?
3.  Does it throw my body into menopause faster?

Hi, I hope I can answer your questions. I'm considering ablation myself and I'm older than you.

1.  Your endometrium does not get build up after an ablation because the uterine lining is burned out and can't regrow back. So the endometrium lining does not shed or sheds very little during your monthly cycle. You can still have spotting or light bleeding. Did your doctor mention that?

2.  No.  My mother had my sister at 42. It depends on your health, how you feel about having children at a later age and also the state of your eggs. It may take longer to conceive but it still is possible if you have not reached menopause.

3.  No. There is no evidence that an endometrial ablation throws your body into  menopause. However you will not be able to get pregnant after this procedure, a pregancy will be very risky if you should get pregant since the placenta would not be able to attach itself normally to the uterus.

I hope I was of help in answering your questions.
