after 54

Hi,I am 54 years old.I had my last period 6 months ago.This month I had very heavy period again,with clots for about 7 days.After 10 days I begin to bleed again,pink,not so heavy.Do you have an idea what this mean?

Most likely you are still in perimenopause and not quite yet in menopause which is defined as 1 year after your last period. To be on the safe side, it is a good idea to speak with your physician. He/she might want to get an ultrasound of your uterus to be sure there are no polyps or other findings and do an exam. They might want to check the lining with an endometrial biopsy to be sure there are no abnormal cells built up. However, as stated above, most likely this is just a normal part of the transition into menopause.
