birth control and peri-menopause question HELP

I am going through peri-menopause and was wondering if anyone else was given birth
control pills to control all the nasty menopause symtpoms?  . . how does the pill help?
Anybody? i'm new to all this.. I'm 48 and the side effects don't sound too good to me . .

I am now 41 and I have been taking BCP for 4 years now because I had a great hormone imbalance and had really nasty bleeding. I was 37 when all this happened The pill helped a lot as my periods are now shorter and lighter and sometimes I even skip a cycle without withdrawal bleeding. I do not have much side effects from the pill and I think the pill has helped a lot cause in my case it was eithr taking the pill and if it worked I have to stay on the pill for as long as is neccessary or either I had to have a hysterectomy. thanks God the pill worked and I am still on it!
