continuous bleeding

I am 41.I have the problem of continuous heavy bleeding during my period with pain.My doctor said that my endometric thickness is 13mm.He suggested and inserted mirena on april 2009 with some hormone tablets.But till date bleeding is continued.My questions are (a) what is the nornal thickness of uterus? (b) what should I do now?

Our endometrial lining thickness depends upon which stage we're at in our cycles.  In perimenopause, it's often hard to tell just where we're at since we skip around a lot.  So, it could be that the 13 mm's is perfectly normal for that portion of your cycle.  They generally aren't concerned about the thickness at this point in things except if it's causing the heavy bleeding that you're experiencing at which point, they want to thin it out and keep it thin, which the mirena is supposed to be doing.  

If you haven't already done so, I'd give him a call and let him know that you're still continuing to bleed and see if he wants to change the dosage of the hormone tabs he's given you or change them.  Everyone is different so, what works for one, may not work for another and a change/adjustment may be needed.  He can also tell you what he thinks of thickness of your lining as well.  It might take a couple of more months to thin that lining out because I know that with taking progesterone, they generally advise taking it for 3 to 6 months to thin it out and check it again at that point.  So, this may all be normal for a bit of time still.  However, if he doesn't know about it, he can't do anything to help.  A change of treatment may be needed or he may tell you to just wait it out.  Best to make a quick call and see what he thinks.
