depression and weight gain

Does anyone else experience depression (characterized by irritability and lethargy) as well as weight gain.  The more weight I gain, the more depressed I feel.  Everyone gets on my nerves.  I've gained almost 10 pounds and it has to stop.  Any ideas of who to lose weight while in menopause.  I'm trying 5HTP now - just started so not sure how it will do.  The digestive problems are a pain as well - so so so tired of the gas!! ugh!!

Hi! I also take 5HTP and i have only been taking it for about 4 weeks. What i have noticed it has really helped with is my moods, i really have been feeling really more up beat than normal. I also sleep much better also. I wasn't aware that it could help with weight loss though. I am concerned about all the stories i have been hearing about weight gain during menopause which started for me a couple months ago. Mine was instant due to surgery. Another thing i have just started taking is Melatonin and the last few nights i have slept like a baby!!! It also helps with mood issues.(depression).Should i expect to gain weight also? I haven't yet but it seems like i am hungry ALL the time! just trying to eat more healthy foods. Please let me know how the 5HTP works for you.

I am going through the same thing, unfortunately. Not sure what you mean by 5HTP though? I will try anything to lose weight at this point. I haven't changed my eating habits at all and didn't have a problem before with losing weight, but now I'm gaining and I can't lose any. Yep, I get depressed too - driving me nuts! Everyone gets on my nerves too! I was never like this - always good natured and basically was the happy-go-lucky type - now I've changed into this dragon lady!

Send me a PM if you'd like :-)

Pm me or check out personal info.  That program has helped me to lose weight and stopped my hot flashes/night sweats/and the "not sleeping".  I can't say enough good about it.
