how soon would menopausal symptoms start after op?

by dalip, Dec 07, 2006 12:00AM
Hello
Basically had hysterectomy at 25(ovaries remained),more or less began taking HRT straight after. This was mainly for mood swings, ovulation pain and night sweats. I took it off and on(stopped  taking it but symptoms returned)for about 14 years. 2-3 years ago stopped taking it and found none of my symptoms returned.2 wks ago i had ovaries removed, i have been offered more HRT but because there is a history of breast cancer in my family i am loathe to take it again unless i really need to.My main question is has anybody had ovaries removed then gone into surgical menopause and if so how long after the op did the symptoms first start. As of yet i have no symptoms at all but i dont want to get to excited in case it's too early for them to develope.Any info regarding this subject would be appriciated. By the way im not 47.

I would say every woman's experience is different.  Many women sail through the menopause with nothing troubling them.  I have read forums where women have reported that after removal of ovaries and womb they have never felt better in every aspect.

I would give it a while to let your body settle down and I hope that you have a good outcome with this.

So...............are you 47 or not?
