menopause related

had a sub-total hysterectomy in 2005 , removing all but the cervix and left ovary. After surgery I continued to have monthly bleeding . A scan revealed a re-growth around the vaginal cuffand my gynae decicded to remove the cuff using vaginal surgery. Following suregry I had a DVT and pelvic infection which put me back in hospital. I have had spinal injections for a pelvic /spinal probelm for over 18 years and follwoing this last surgery the pelvic pain became worse affecting the entire pelvic girdle. I also now have a 25 day cycle of building pain in the pelvis culminating at 23-25 days when I run a fever level temperature , severe pain in the left to mid pelvic area followed in 24hours by a  blood stained pus like discharge. My pain consultant put in a Major hypo gastric block which removed the build up , background pain in the front of the pelvis so now I just get a sharp , burning pain at 23-25 days which resembles a feeling like a balloon blowing up then bursting and the discharge coming away.  My Gynae and I agreed to keep the remaining ovary as I had a very severe reaction to a drug used to induce a chemical menopause and I was concerned that a sudden surgical menopause would make matters worse for me as I suffered migraines' blurred vision, aching bones etc until it worked its way out of my system. I am 50 so I expect the menopause is around the corner but as I am having this cycical pattern both the gynae and GP think that I am still ovulating and are debating if the ovary is the cause and should be removed? I am keen to hear if anyone has any other possible causes for this happening. It just seems so strange to be still having a blood stained discharge enough to soak pads , a very high temperature and pelvic pain sufficent to make me bed bound for three days each month. Obviously this is affecting my working pattern. Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

It sounds like you have had a very difficult time for several years. It is not clear what a re-growth is or what regrew. It is clear you are having a lot of symptoms. If you had a blood clot after surgery and had to have several other operations, it would seem wise not to have further surgery to remove the remaining ovary unless there were a very clear reason.  You might want to get a second opinion for any surgery and also to have a look at what is causing your pain. Perhaps the pelvic infection allowed some bacteria to still be inside you and it would be good to talk with an infectious disease person to see if he/she has any additional ideas.

Thanks for the quick response. The re-growth on the vaginal cuff was endometirum . The reason behind the poss removal of the ovary is because they believe the cyclic pattern of  building pain, sharp pain ,vaginal pus like discharge has a hormonal base and by removing the ovary they hope it will end the cyclic nature. To be honest I have been seen by 3 consultants and they are all perplexed by the case. The theory is that there maybe microspocic endo deposits in the pelvis which swell and grow , then discharge into the cavity where it then becomes infected , causing a fever and then drains through the vagina. The infection has been tested but they cannot identify it.
