perimenopause or menopause?

My doc says FSH indicates menopause (70) have had irregular periods throughout 2010, doc is concerned about bleeding, I think I am still perimenopausal, feel great, no other symptoms (hot flashes, etc.), have lost weight in last 2 years, have had vaginal utrasound indicating same fibroids that I have had for a while are still there and same size, is it possible to have such a high FSH and still be perimenaopausal.  FSH done 1/11 was up from 10/10.  I don't want to have a procedure done that I don't need, ie. fibroid removal, endrometrial biopsy.

I know that perimenopause can be determined by the levels of hormones through a simple blood test. I don't know if that is an FSH test or not. What I know about menopause is that you are medically considered menopausal if you've gone ONE YEAR without a period, and that includes spotting. In other words, no vaginal bleeding at all.
I don't know if a high FSH means you can still be perimenopausal or not.
I also don't know what difference it would make in having your fibroids removed or an endometrial biopsy.
Since I haven't been of much help, I would suggest you call your gyno and talk to either him/her or the nurse and get the real scoop.
