strange periods

Since I have started menopause I have been getting strange periods. Sometimes my periods last 3 weeks to 4 weeks out of a month .Is this normal? My periods can be very heavy. Some months I don't get anything at all.My periods have off since my last child was born which has been 10 yrs now.

I'd suggest you get to your GYN & get a blood count test, along with pap smear.  I was having too many periods & on a normal pap smear test, she found I was severe enemic.  I was put on iron and slowly the blood count built back up.
I'm back to spotting & having periods every 2 weeks again, so I'll be going back to GYN for a blood test & another pap smear.
I had gotten hormone pellets in hip over 4 mos ago, so that's probably my problem, but even the natural pellets can cause cancer in some people & I want to make sure I'm not anemic again.
Also, you might consider going to a doctor who will actuall run a hormone blood profile on you.  I did before I got the pellets, and I was actually in menopause with very low levesl of everything.  That's ok if you can endure the hot flashes, etc...

When I last went in to see my GYN to get a Pap smear, I asked her about it. I had been having a period lasting about 2 days for about 6 or 7 months now. When I asked her if she thought I was entering Menopause she said you usually see periods going from one spectrum to the other. Heavy some months, light some months or no period at all. She said that was more a sign of Menopause. So it does sound like it in your case! You didn't say how old you are but most people enter Menopause at around 51 although it can be sooner. You can also be in perimonopause for up to 10 years before you are actually in full blown Menopause. Hope this helps!
