Why do most women gain weight after having a hystorectomy?  Does the HRT cause it?

I had a partial hystorectomy leaving one ovary 5 years ago.  Everything was fine, I didn't have to take any hormones since I still had an ovary. Then last year I started having trouble with cyst on the other ovary so they took it out.  I started having hot flashes within two days of the surgery.  I have also gained 30 pounds, and I've tried everything to get rid of it.  It seems like it's mostly belly fat. I could do 10,000 sit ups a day and it wouldn't help.  I've already seen a plastic surgeon about a tummy tuck, but will it come back after going to the extreme?  I have been on bio-identical hormones since I had the ovary taken out.  I've decided to go off all hormones and see if it helps with the weight.  I also have chronic pain, so I'm on a lot of pain meds and antidepresants.

Everyone I know that has has a hystorectomy has gained weight and is dealing with this same problem.  Regardless of what doctors say, I think that were on to something.

When you find out....I would LOVE to know the answer to that also.....since my hysterectomy 4 years ago...I have gained  30 lbs....I eat less, exercise more and am extremely depressed over this.   I have been to numerous doctors...they all say that hysters do not cause weight gain.......BULL......then how come everyone complains of the same thing.....I am at the end of my rope.  Thanks for making me feel like I am not alone...sometimes I think I am going crazy!!!! :)
